Organic mechanical properties

Chemical Properties. A combination of excellent chemical and mechanical properties at elevated temperatures result in high performance service in the chemical processing industry. Teflon PEA resins have been exposed to a variety of organic and inorganic compounds commonly encountered in chemical service (26). They are not attacked by inorganic acids, bases, halogens, metal salt solutions, organic acids, and anhydrides. Aromatic and ahphatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, ethers, amines, esters, chlorinated compounds, and other polymer solvents have Httle effect. However, like other perfluorinated polymers, they react with alkah metals and elemental fluorine. [Pg.375]

The successfiil synthesis of a transparent soHd polymer electrolyte (SPE) based on PEO and alkoxysilanes has been reported (41). The material possessed good mechanical properties and high electrical conductivity (around 1.8 x 10 S/cm at 25°C) dependent on the organic—inorganic ratio and PEO chain length. [Pg.329]

Polyarylates are sensitive to heat. Although mechanical properties are not much affected, colors darken. Properties are given in Table 8. Hydrolytic stability and resistance to organic solvents are fair. [Pg.269]

Another commonly employed low-cost organic filler is coconut shell flour. This can be incorporated into the moulding composition in large quantities and this results in cheaper mixes than when woodflour is used. The mouldings also have a good finish. However, coconut shell flour-filled mouldings have poor mechanical properties and hence the filler is generally used in conjunction with woodflour. [Pg.647]

An EB-curable struetural adhesive formulation usually eonsists of one or more crosslinkable oligomeric resins or prepolymers, along with such additives as reactive diluents, plasticizers, and wetting agents. The oligomer is an important component in terms of the development of mechanical properties. The adhesive and cohesive properties depend on the crosslink density, chemical group substitution, and molecular organization within the polymer matrix. Adhesion is achieved... [Pg.1012]

The acylation reaction of PS with organic anhydrides, such as maleic and acetic anhydrides, are very important for synthesizing polyfunctional (carbonyl-, carboxyl-, keto-, olefinic) PS. The incorporation of these groups to PS caused an increase of adhesion capability, physico-mechanical properties, elasticity, and photosensitivity [41-46]. [Pg.266]

Sulfur compounds, whether organic or inorganic in nature, cause sulfidation in susceptible materials. The sulfide film, which forms on the surface of much con-stmction materials at low temperatures, becomes friable and melts at higher temperatures. The presence of molten sulfides (especially nickel sulfide) on a metal surface promotes the rapid conversion to metal sulfides at temperatures where these sulfides are thermodynamically stable. High-alloy materials such as 25% Cr, 20% Ni alloys are widely used, but these represent a compromise between sulfidation resistance and mechanical properties. Aluminum and similar diffusion coatings can be of use. [Pg.900]
