Organic linings

Preferential flow through root-mediated soil pores has been demonstrated for chloride, nitrate, and other ions that are not sorbed onto soil organic matter and clays. However, pesticide sorption onto soil affects both mobiUty of the pesticide as well as its residual life in the soil. Pesticide sorption onto root organic matter or organic linings of worm burrows may also slow transport of pesticides relative to water (72), thus countering the effects of increased permeabihty caused by roots. [Pg.223]

Urethane Asphalt Adhesive/Membrane A urethane asphalt elastomer serves as both an adhesive and a membrane to protect the substrate. It is a two-component material which bonds the blocks to each other and to carbon steel, alloy steel, concrete or other organic linings and also functions as a moisture and chemical-resistant barrier (or membrane) between the block and the substrate. [Pg.194]

Figure 17-3 shows a steel vessel lined with block under insulating firebrick and acid brick. At high operating temperatures, a proper brick thickness reduces the temperature on the block to 800°F or below. The maximum temperature limit for the block under brickwork or any other organic lining is 800°F. This limit, lower than the 960°F for the block alone, is necessary because the load placed on the block by another lining material may cause the block to creep and distort at temperatures above 800°F. [Pg.196]

Organic linings such as polyesters, vinyl esters or fluoroelastomers may resist wet acid condensates at low temperatures but will not accept higher temperatures where a semi-refractory is needed. [Pg.197]

Columnar cells are longer than they are wide the small intestine is a tubular organ lined with a simple columnar epithelium composed of a single layer of cells. Unicellular glands are scattered throughout this type of tissue and secrete mucus. [Pg.115]

The source line will either have the common name for the organism or its scientific name. Older records may contain other soiuce information (see below) in this field. A concerted effort is now under way to assme that all other information present in the somce feature (as opposed to the somce line) and all lines in the taxonomy block (somce and organism lines) can be derived from what is in the source feature... [Pg.53]

In summary, the adsorption behaviour of MOFs is of interest because of their large pore volumes, and the novel properties of their organic-lined pores. Furthermore, the reactivity and flexibility of their structures gives rise to reversible uptake of H-bonding molecules with recrystallisation, breathing ... [Pg.294]

Bunker—A fortified structure, but primarily a buried or semiburied structure, offering a high degree of protection to personnel, defended gun positions, or a defensive position, from enany attack. Bureaucratic organization—Line organization with an established hierarchy. [Pg.472]
