Organic farmings contribution to policy objectives

The rapid development of organic farming in the last decade is partly due to increased consideration of its prospects in official policy measures either aimed directly at or having potential application to organic farming. 

In the last decade, food quality and minimisation of the negative environmental impacts of agricultural production have gained importance in European agricultural policy. Today, policy makers are striving to achieve the following objectives  

1 minimise negative environmental impacts of agricultural production  

1 provide high-quality food while assuring food supply  

3 preserve both farming incomes and the competitiveness of European agriculture
