Organic Compounds Inhibited Glycols

Antifreeze contains corrosion-inhibiting compounds and dye for identification purposes. Dilution is 1 1 glycol to water mixture, which gives protection down to -40°C. Newer developments have seen the advent of organic acid technology (OAT) antifreezes such as Dex-cool. OAT antifreezes have extended service lives of up to 150,000 miles. The properties of OAT coolant are shown in Table 7.7. OATs can mix with non-OATs however, the change interval will decrease to 2 years or 30,000 miles. OATs work by a mechanism different from that of traditional antifreeze mechanisms. As can be seen from Table 7.7, the additive package of the OAT contains... [Pg.108]

In the past few years, many other organic-water separations have been screened in feasibility tests. Some have received substantial research and development effort because they require large consumptions of energy for separation by distillation. A partial list of the organics includes dioxane, acetone, formamide, A,A-dimethyl formamide, and ethylene glycol. Most of these compounds hydrogen bond to water and to themselves, which inhibits... [Pg.181]

Published literature also deals with the effect of the incorporation of REM salts in mixed aqueous media in order to inhibit the corrosion of different metallic materials. An example is the addition of Ce ions to flowing ethylene glycol-water solutions to inhibit the corrosion of aliuninum alloy 3003 used in refrigerating systems (Liu and Cheng, 2011). However, in recent years, the most innovative developments in this area of REM salt corrosion inhibitors have involved the study of the synergic effects of the mixtures of these rare earths with various organic and inorganic compounds. [Pg.93]
