Coatings on-line

In a paper machine vdth on-line coating, the same applicators as in off-line coaters can be used. Refer to Chapter 7 for a more detailed description of these applicators. [Pg.292]

On-line coating has the advantage of a considerably reduced total machine size compared vdth off-line coating, because a winder and an unwind station as well as a re-reeler can be omitted. This reduced size has a direct impact on investment and personnel costs. Paper losses due to the additional winding and unwinding process in an off-line process are also avoided. [Pg.292]

Melt Extrusion. By far the most important method for producing film and sheeting materials reties on one or another of the various melt extmsion techniques (5). The main variations of melt extmsion are the slot (or flat) die-cast film process, the blown films process, and the flat die sheeting-stack process. These may be combined with one or more steps such as coextmsion wherein multilayer film or sheet is formed, biaxial orientation, and in-line coating (6). [Pg.379]

Figure 2.21 shows the on-line extraction gas chromatogram of 2.25 ml of water spiked at 5 ppb levels with 14 different organic pollutants (40). In this case, the authors concluded that wall-coated open tubular traps (thick-film polysiloxane phases) can be used for the on-line extraction of organic compounds from water. However, when using swelling agents such as pentane, non-polar analytes can be trapped quantitatively, while for more polar compounds chloroform is the most suitable solvent. [Pg.38]

Many SFC applications in the literature concern the analysis of UV-active additives in polymers and coatings after extraction [319-335], On-line SFE-SFC has also been used [319,321-325,333-335] (cf. Section 7.1.1.4). cSFC is often a matter of choice because every kind of polymer additive can be detected with FID [326,328,330,331,335-337], Some publications show interesting examples of pSFC with UV detection [329,332,337-339]. Figure 4.5 shows the pSFC separation developed for routine formulation control of... [Pg.214]

Applications SFE-SFC solves problems in such diverse areas as polymers/monomers, oils/lubricants, foods, pharmaceuticals, natural products, specialty chemicals, coatings, surfactants and others. Off-line SFE-SFC survives alongside on-line determinations of additives, because of the need for representative sample sizes. Off-line SFE-SFC was used for extraction of AOs from PP [102]. In cases where the analyst wishes to perform further analysis on the extracted species, it is useful to be able to isolate the extract from the solvent. The ability to remove the solvent easily is particularly important when SFE is coupled on-line to chromatographic techniques, but is equally important for trace analysis when it is useful to concentrate... [Pg.441]

Always based on the use of IR spectrophotometry, a novel attenuated total reflection-Fourier-transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) sensor [42] was proposed for the on-line monitoring of a dechlorination process. Organohalogenated compounds such as trichloroethylene (TCE), tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and carbon tetrachloride (CT) were detected with a limit of a few milligrams per litre, after extraction on the ATR internal-reflection element coated with a hydro-phobic polymer. As for all IR techniques, partial least squares (PLS) calibration models are needed. As previously, this system is promising for bioprocess control and optimization. [Pg.261]

A relatively new cell line that has not to date been characterised for its use in biopharmaceutics is based on primary airway epithelial cells infected with retroviruses expressing hTERT and HPV-16 E6/E7 (NuLi-1) [54], NuLi-1 cells were cultured on plastic up to passage 30. When grown on collagen-coated, semi-permeable membranes (Millicell-PCF), NuLi-1 TEER decreased only slightly over the 30 passages from 685 31 to 389 21 ohm.cm2. The TEER of NuLi-1 is similar to that observed with the primary bronchial cultures of 532 147 ohm.cm2. Thus, NuLi-1 cells can form an electrically tight airway epithelial barrier that mimics active and passive ion transport properties of primary human bronchial epithelial cells [54],... [Pg.242]
