Conjugation of polysaccharides to proteins is a popular method for preparing efficacious vaccines. However, attachment of polysaccharides to proteins provide a set of problems different from those of small, structurally defined oligosaccharides. Typically, polysaccharides used are chemically polydisperse, and the preparation of glycosides from polysaccharides is impractically difficult. 

Among recent developments in glycoconjugates appHed for drug immunotherapy and so on [140], a variety of oligosaccharide-squaramide-protein (e.g., bovine, human, and chicken serum albumins) conjugates have been prepared with the Tietze s squarate ester methodology and tested for their bioactivity [141-157].
