Oligo structure property studies

From the biological viewpoint, glycosaminoglycans (GAGS) are one of the most relevant oligo- and polysaccharides. The access to new NMR hardware and software, as well as the employment of new synthetic and molecular biology protocols have permitted important advances in the comprehension of their structural and conformational properties, as well as deeply study different examples of their interaction with receptors. 

The study of Saa has so far concentrated on their use as biopolymer building blocks to mimic oligo- and polysaccharide structures via amide bond linkages.1In 1994 the first example of a Saa as a new type of peptidomimetic [replacement of amino acid(s) by Saa] was reported/44 which was later extended to the Saa construction kit 7-16, and others, a versatile tool for the manipulation of peptide properties 45"51 (Scheme 2). 

Experimentally, a few series of oligo(l,l-silole)s have been prepared as models of poly(l, 1 -silolejs and their structures and photophysical properties have been studied in detail59,61,62. We have prepared a series of oligo( 1,1 -silolejs 57 having 3,4-diphenyl-2,5-dimethylsilole as a monomer unit. The stoichiometrically controlled reduction of 1,1-dichlorosilole with sodium followed by treatment with 1-methyl-1-chlorosilole affords tersilole57a and quater-silole 57b, as shown in Scheme 1059.
