Oleomargarine is a product made in imitation of butter, wbicb it resembles very closely in color, taste, odor, and general appearance. Under tlie original patent, it is made from beef-fat, which is bashed, steamed, and subjected to pressure at a carefully regulated temperature. Under this treatment it is separated into two fatty products, one a white solid etearine, the other a faintly yellow oil, "oleo-oiL This oil is then mixed with milk, the mixture colored and churned. The subsequent treatment of the promutton tallow, lard, and cotton-seed oil. [Pg.182]

Oleo Resins. These oily residues, obtained from the solvent extraction of herbs, contain more of the characteristic flavors than do the essential oils. The solvent extraction removes nearly all of the flavor bodies from the herb. The extract solvent is distilled, reduciag the solution to an oily residue. Oleo resias of iaterest to the carbonated beverage iadustry are ginger, celery, and black pepper. [Pg.13]

Seals Seals are normally transparent, quick-drying, highly penetrating materials that are used to stop cement dusting and contamination by oils, etc. The moisture-cured urethanes are particularly suitable, since they penetrate to produce a hard-wearing surface. However, if safety factors preclude their use there are also epoxy and even oleo-resinous products available. [Pg.133]

For some time worldwide a systematic and large expansion of vegetable oil production has been occurring, especially in southeastern Asia in 1990 the consumption of fats amounted to about 80 million tons. Eighty percent was used as food, 6% as feed, but 14%—more than 14 million metric tons—was used for industrial purposes. By the year 2000 the world fat production will have risen to over 100 million tons [3]. Also, in the future the oleo chemistry will have a broad and reliable raw materials basis. Tables 3 and 4 give information on the present and future production of important fats and fatty oils and the composition of the fatty acid mixtures that can be derived from these fats. [Pg.3]

A further example of process quality monitoring and reactor batch profiling using NIRS comes with oleo-chemical and biodiesel production. An established use of FT-NIR analysis (AOCS Method Cd le 01) is the determination of the key vegetable oil processing parameters - iodine value (IV) and percentage trans fat content (%Trans) (Figure 5.38). [Pg.151]
