The plant is known to produce norbisabolane diterpenes, including phyllanthusols A and B, which are both cytotoxic (36). From the bark, pentacyclic triterpenoids, phyl-lanthol, and olean-12en-3[3-ol (p-amyrin) have been isolated (37). Note lupane- and oleanane-type triterpenoids isolated from the bark of Phyllanthus flexuosus, such as olean-12-en-3 (3,15 a-diol, olean-12-en-3 [3,15 a,24-triol, lupeol, and betulin inhibited the enzymatic activity of topoisomerase II activity with IC50 values in the range of 10 to 39 p.M (38). [Pg.196]

Dammar is produced by trees belonging to the Dipterocarpaceae family. It is mainly composed of triterpenoids, but it also contains a polymeric fraction based on polycadinene, a polysesquiterpene [37,38]. The main components of the triterpene fraction are compounds with a dammarane type skeleton and oleane/ursane type molecules [39,40]. [Pg.337]

It is well known that the solubility of a compound in SCCO2 may be increased by adding modiflers (Sect. 2.3). One would expect an increased solubility of complexes in SCCO2 in the presence of an olefln/aldehyde, in which these complexes are well soluble at atmospheric pressure. Surprisingly, the example of trans-Co2 CO) [V n-Bu3])2 (2b) shows that the solubility is lower in the presence of oleflns compared to that solubility in pure CO2. For concentration ranges typical of a catalyzed reaction, the solubility of a metal complex drops with increasing chain length of an added of-oleAn (Fig. 17)... [Pg.126]

By using betulin as substrate, some mechanistic studies were performed and it was demonstrated that these reactions are catalyzed by Brpnsted acid species generated in situ from the hydrolysis of Bi(0Tf)3-.vH20. This process was also applied to other terpenic compounds. The sesquiterpene ( )-caryophyllene oxide originated clov-2-en-9a-ol by a cariophyllene-clovane rearrangement (Scheme 41) whereas 3-oxo- l 8a-olean-28- l 3(3-olide was obtained from oleanonic acid (Scheme 42). With this triterpene derivative, only 28,13(3-lactonization occurred, with inversion of the configuration of the stereocenter at C18 [133],... [Pg.170]

Biodiesel is a olean burning alternative fuel produced from domestic, renewable resources. Biodiesel contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel to oreate a biodiesel blend. It can be used in compression-ignition (diesel) engines with little or no modifications. Biodiesel is simple to use, biodegradable, non-toxic, and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics. [Pg.22]

In 1944 a fluid catalyst pilot plant was erected and operated at the Olean laboratory. A schematic flow diagram of the unit is shown in Figure 1. The unit operated well from the beginning. The conversion of jeactants exceeded that achieved by the Germans even at space velocities 10 to 20 times those used in Europe. Also, iron catalysts were developed which gave oil yields comparable with those obtained by fixed-bed operations. Typical results from these early experiments are shown in Table I. A discussion of the conditions for the different runs is given in subsequent paragraphs. [Pg.127]

The inhibitory effect of olean-12-ene-3p,23,28-triol tri-O-hemiphthalate sodium (158), ursolic acid (210), and betulinic acid (257) on lung tumors have been reported [43].
