Journal reports by Bell and Gershon indicated that tetrahydroaminoacridine (THA), a cholinesterase inhibitor, was effective in reversing delirium induced by Ditran (JB-329) as a form of psychiatric treatment It is interesting that their use of Ditran for this purpose was similar to the atropine coma treatment method reported more than a decade earlier by Forrer, Miller et al. In our study, five subjects were given 5.0 mcg/kg of oral BZ on two occasions, 8-14 days apart 60 mcg/kg of THA was administered iv four hours after the time of the second BZ dose. We observed definite partial reversal of impairment soon after injection, but it was brief. An unexpected observation was the general tendency by the subjects to become impaired more rapidly and intensely by BZ on the second occasion - a finding that was later confirmed in a more careful study.

Since Dr. Goldanskii says he is not familiar with Douzou s work, perhaps I can make some response to the question of Dr. Thomas. Douzou s observations definitely do not illustrate a Goldanskii effect. In my understanding, the essential point from Douzou experiments, focusing on enzyme kinetics at temperatures from above 0°C to substantially below, is that the kinetic parameters change in a continuous way. 

Srivastava and Ghosh report that the kinetics are first-order with respect to peroxodisulphate and zero-order with respect to formic acid, but Kappana reports first-order kinetics with respect to each reactant. The effect of trace amounts of metal ions and of oxygen on the rate is uncertain, and discussion of the mechanism is of doubtful significance at present. However, the reported observations definitely indicate a chain mechanism. Thus Srivastava and Ghosh found an induction period in the oxidation, and report that halide ions inhibit the reaction (inhibition by halide ions is a feature of reactions involving hydroxyl radicals). In a study of the silver ion-catalysed oxidation, Gupta and Nigam found that the reaction is approximately first-order with respect to both peroxodisulphate and the catalyst, and zero-order with respect to the substrate. 

Anderson and Reinhard (1939) observed definite differences in the corrosion rates of sheet zinc exposed during different periods of the day. Specimens were exposed for 8 hours per day and were stored in dry, unheated rooms for the other 16 hours. The test was planned so that a different group of specimens was exposed during each 8-hour period 08 15 to 16 15, 16 15 to (X) 15, and 00 15 to 08 15. The test continued for 6 years, and thus each set was exposed to the atmosphere of Palmerton, Pennsylvania, for a cumulative... 

Although these asymmetric reactions are synthetically of little use, the observed definite relationship between olefin structure and predominant configuration of the addition product may allow one to speculate some stereochemical outcome of the present hydrosilylation. 

In the human the reported observations have been few. Those of Shohl and Blackfan have already been mentioned. In another study in a surgical patient (2) a mixture of crystalline amino acids was given intravenously for 30 days without untoward effect even when the rate of injection was rapid. The present author has observed definite differences between the dog and the human with the following mixtine of pure crystalline amino acids. ... 

Summarizing the available information one has to conclude that the family observations definitely support the assumption of a single gene locus to be responsible for the disease entity of hypercholesterolemia. The claim for complete dominance of the pathologic gene over its normal allele, viewing the great majority of patients with most severe hypercholesterolemia and xanthomatosis as well as... 

The hole mobility as a function of temperature is shown in Figure 18. The values obtained are five to ten times higher than the mobility of impurity cations in this liquid. Above the melting point the mobility is thermally activated with an activation energy of 32 meV. At higher temperatures a decrease in mobility with temperature is observed. Definite identification of the fast carriers as holes was effected by reaction with tetramethylsilane as an additive. This image proves without ambiguity that the Pic disk is extended at 10 fan. the extension is observed up to 5" from the star. These observations definitively dismiss the models invoking large blackbody grains, which, at a few arcsec from the star, would have a temperature too low to be detected at 10 fan.
