Nylon composite with glass fiber

An example of a typical material composition is the combination of a polymer and a filler. Because compounding is a techiuque that can complement the drawbacks of conventional polymers, it has been studied over a long period and its practical apphcations are well known. Reinforcing materials such as short-fiber are often used for compounding with thermoplastic polymers in order to improve their mechaiucal or thermal properties. Polypropylene and polyamide (nylon) are used for the thermoplastic polymers, while glass fiber and carbon fiber are mainly used as reinforcing materials. A few ttm... [Pg.136]

To summarize the points discussed, silicone rubbers are innovative. An example of this are inserts in LSR showerheads which do not become blocked and can be produced cost-effectively in the injection-molding process as composite elements with thermoplastic nylon 6.6 30 % glass fiber. Silicone rubbers, however, are also high performance, and this is evident particularly in the many applications where they have been used for years at high temperatures, for exsample seals in irons or other domestic appliances. And not least, silicone rubbers are also efficient. An example of this molds for prototyping without which cost-effective production of individual items would not in fact be possible. [Pg.708]

Mica is combined with polyolefin resins to make composites that compare favorably to widely used engineering resins. These reinforced compounds are now replacing acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), glass fiber-reinforced polypropylene, various grades of nylon and polyester resins, and steel in many applications. [Pg.499]

The effect of EB treatment on the mechanical properties, density and chemical durability of glass fibers was shown to be negligible up to a dose of 3 MGy. The only visible effect was discoloration. The use of organic fibers, such as polyethylene or nylon fibers, for reinforcing EB cured composites must be considered with caution, since the properties of the fibers are affected by the EB irradiation.28 An industrial EB accelerator for 1.2 m working width is shown in Fig. 14.21. [Pg.469]

The void content of pultruded composite rods have been studied using NMRI [IS]. Glass fiber-reinforced nylon rods with fiber contents of 51% by volume were first mixed with different catalyst contents following the reaction injection molding (RIM) process, and then pultruded with a pulling speed 18 inches... [Pg.159]
