Nuclei, assisting

On the other hand, the provision of vast numbers of minute nuclei assists the phosphate coating reaction to start at a multitude of centres, resulting in a finely crystalline coating. This effect can be obtained chemically by a predip in a solution of sodium phosphate containing minutely dispersed traces of titanium or zirconium salts or in weak solution of oxalic acid. This type of pre-dip entirely eliminates any coarsening effect due to previous treatment in strong alkalis or acids. [Pg.710]

Ruonne NMR data can be collected readily on most spectrometers, requinng only minor adjustments to mstrumentation used to run proton samples The fluonne-19 nucleus is easily detected (relative abundance, 100%, spin, 1/2) and generates a wealth of spectral information to assist in structure elucidation To take full advantage of all the spectral evidence available, H, and chemical shifts and couphng constants should be acquired and correlated... [Pg.1040]

Bromobenzene. -The replacement of hydrogen by the halogens Cl and Br, in the nucleus of aromatic hydrocarbons, is assisted by the presence of a halogen carriei, the action of which lias been referred to in the Note on the piepaiations of chlor- and bioin-acetic acids, p. 252. Iodine, iion, iron and alupiinium chlorides and bromides, the aluminium-mercury... [Pg.271]

Whereas DNA has a single role as the storehouse of genetic information, RNA plays many roles in the operation of a cell. There are several different types of RNA, each having its own function. The principal job of RNA is to provide the information needed to synthesize proteins. Protein synthesis requires several steps, each assisted by RNA. One type of RNA copies the genetic information from DNA and carries this blueprint out of the nucleus and into the cytoplasm, where construction of the protein takes place. The protein is assembled on the surface of a ribosome, a cell component that contains a second type of RNA. The protein is consfructed by sequential addition of amino acids in the order specified by the DNA. The individual amino acids are carried to the growing protein chain by yet a third type of RNA. The details of protein synthesis are well understood, but the process is much too complex to be described in an introductoiy course in chemistry. [Pg.942]

The photoluminescence (PL) spectrum in Figure 1.7 shows a number of lines related to nitrogen-bound excitons and free excitons. SiC has an indirect bandgap, thus the exciton-related luminescence is often assisted by a phonon. Bound exciton luminescence without phonon assistance can, however, occur because conservation in momentum can be accomplished with the help of the core or the nucleus of the nitrogen atom. That is why the zero phonon lines of the nitrogen atom are seen, denoted and Q , in the spectrum but not the zero phonon line of the free exciton. [Pg.9]

The next step is the fission of the bond between the aromatic nucleus and the alkyl group assistance of a basic site (surface oxygen atoms —O—, —O" or —OH) which takes the leaving proton from the Cp atom is very probable. The last step is the desorption of the arene. [Pg.317]

A mechanism called nucleation-condensation describes the folding.30,37,38 (The term nucleation-collapse is also used.39,40) This mechanism involves a nucleus that consists primarily of adjacent residues (Table 19.1). The nucleus does not form stable structure without assistance from interactions made with residues that are distant in sequence. Formation of the small nucleus cannot be solely rate-determining because a significant fraction of the overall structure... [Pg.631]

Alkaline hydrolysis of a trifluoromethyl group attached to an aromatic nucleus is assisted by the presence of an electron-donating substituent in the aromatic ring, especially in the 2- or 4-position.168-171... [Pg.419]

The implementation of this methodology for a synthesis of advanced macro-cyclic precursors of antitumor antibiotics lankacidins, which posses a carbocyclic structure, has been reported by Thomas [77]. In such a route, Scheme 13, one of the key steps is the ring opening of the (3-lactam nucleus in 30 by methanol, assisted by KCN, to give the corresponding (3-amino ester intermediate 31. The latter, upon cyclization and protecting group manipulation, renders 32, which on subsequent elaboration affords lankacidin C. [Pg.221]
