Proof-of-concept testing (except for NO, recycle and the established Claus process) has been conducted on a 5 MW slipstream at Ohio Edison s Toronto Station. A demonstration larger than 100 MW, is planned under a DOE Clean Coal contract (Haslbeck, 1992 Moore, 1993A). A study rated the NOXSO process as the only process with the potential to be equivalent to wet FGD with selective catalytic reduction. The 1991 capital cost is estimated to be 2S7/kW, and the operating cost to be 11.7 mills/kWh (Cichanowicz et al., 1991). [Pg.632]

Processes that produce salable byproducts should be considered for application at sites where chemicals such as sulfiiiic acid are already being produced. Modified forms of the CuO and NOXSO processes are specifically reconunended. [Pg.931]

Work using the corona effect is proceeding in Denmark and Italy, and using E-beam in Germany and Japan Pilot plants of 5MW are planned in the USA for the copper oxide process, the NOXSO process (Halsbeck and others 1988) and the SOxNOxROxBOx process (Kitto, 1988). [Pg.325]

A process development known as NOXSO (DuPont) (165,166) uses sodium to purify power plant combustion flue gas for removal of nitrogen oxide, NO, and sulfur, SO compounds. This technology reHes on sodium metal generated in situ via thermal reduction of sodium compound-coated media contained within a flue-gas purification device, and subsequent flue-gas component reactions with sodium. The process also includes downstream separation and regeneration of spent media for recoating and circulation back to the gas purification device. A full-scale commercial demonstration project was under constmction in 1995. [Pg.169]
