Normalising agent

Protein determination is necessary to estimate the amount of protein in the sample, to normalise against the protein concentration or during purification procedures. Depending on the amount of sample, accuracy and presence of interfering agents, one needs to decide on the method to be used. For accurate quantification, the sample protein is compared with a known amount of a standard protein which could either be the commonly used bovine serum albumin (BSA) or it could sometimes be immunoglobulin G (IgG). The various methods and their specifications are outlined below ... [Pg.16]

Patients with liver disease may have an increased gastrointestinal transit time [3]. These patients may benefit from taking a pro-kinetic agent, as normalisation of gastrointestinal motility will reduce the time available for the absorption of nitrogenous compounds that may precipitate encephalopathy. The use of pro-kinetic agents has also been shown to reduce intestinal bacterial overgrowth in patients with cirrhosis [4-6]. [Pg.211]

Control samples (containing between 10% and 36% of blowing agent and between 90% and 64% of LDPE) were used to construct a calibration plot. These samples are free of any additives that would normally be present in the commercial samples. Some of the normalised DSC curves (total mass of 2.0 mg) as a function of % azo are shown in... [Pg.51]

Normalised DSC curves as a function of azodicarbondimide (azo) blowing agent concentration are shown in Figure 9.9, which clearly shows that the magnitude of the exothermal curve (i.e., its area) increases with the azo concentration. [Pg.328]
