Norepinephrine Levophed

Norepinephrine (Levophed). Norepinephrine stimulates both types of alpha receptors as well as beta-1 receptors but displays very little agonistic activity toward beta-2 receptors. It is usually administered intravenously to treat hypotension during shock or general anesthesia. [Pg.279]

MAINTAINING ADEQUATE TISSUE PERFUSION. When a patient is in shock and experiencing ineffective tissue perfusion diere is a decrease in oxygen resulting in an inability of die body to nourish its cells at die capillary level. If die patient has marked hypotension die administration of a vasopressor (a drug diat raises die blood pressure because of its ability to constrict blood vessels) is required. The primary health care provider determines die cause of die hyiDotension and then selects the best rnediod of treatment. Some hypotensive episode require die use of a less potent vasopressor, such as metaraminol, whereas at other tim a more potent vasopressor, such as dobutamine (Dobutrex), dopamine (Intropin), or norepinephrine (Levophed) is necessary. [Pg.206]

The client in cardiogenic shock is receiving norepinephrine (Levophed), a sympathomimetic. Which priority intervention should the nurse implement ... [Pg.341]

This is the scientific rationale for administering adrenergics (sympathomimetics) such as norepinephrine (Levophed), not colloid solutions. [Pg.347]

Norepinephrine is used for increasing cardiac constriction and for the necessary elevation of blood pressure after sharp decline, which can result from surgical intervention or trauma. Synonyms of noradrenaline are arterenol, levarterenol, levophed, and others. [Pg.148]

Norepinephrine (NE). NE (Levophed) is used to maintain blood pressure in acute hypotensive states resulting from surgical or nonsurgical trauma, central vasomotor depression, and hemorrhage. Like the other endogenous catecholamines, it is a substrate fur both MAO and COMT and thus is not effective by the oral route of administration. It is given by intravenous injection. [Pg.532]
