NON-STOICHIOMETRIC COMPOUNDS DERIVED FROM EXTENDED DEFECTS

It has been well established that there is a series of compounds (homologous series) expressed by the general formula V O2 i (n = 3,4,..., 9) between VjOj and VjO, called the Magneli phase. These compounds are non-stoichiometric compounds derived from extended defects (see Section 2.2.1). We describe a study on the phase diagram of this system, carried out by controlling the oxygen partial pressure. [Pg.46]

NON-STOICHIOMETRIC COMPOUNDS DERIVED FROM EXTENDED DEFECTS... [Pg.115]

In the above sections, we have described the four types of non-stoichiometric compounds derived from extended defects based on the difference of structural characteristics. The concept of adaptive structure, which was proposed by the late Professor J. S. Anderson in 1973, is a more general concept which explains some of the examples mentioned in the preceding sections. The compounds which have the adaptive structure are defined by Anderson as ... [Pg.189]

Chapter 2 describes non-stoichiometric compounds derived from extended defects . Research in this field showed significant growth towards the end of the 1960s (although important papers by Professor A. Magneli and Professor A. D, Wadsley were published in the 1950s), initiated by the proposition of the shear structure model by Professor J. S. Anderson and... [Pg.270]
