Fluorides nitrogen

All nitrogen fluorides are very reactive, often dangerous species, generally powerful oxidizers. Compounds such as NF3 ( F = +143) and N2F4 would virtually never be encountered in an organic synthesis laboratory, and no NMR data has even been reported for the latter compound. NF3 [Pg.275]

CoF is used for the replacement of hydrogen with fluorine in halocarbons (5) for fluorination of xylylalkanes, used in vapor-phase soldering fluxes (6) formation of dibutyl decalins (7) fluorination of alkynes (8) synthesis of unsaturated or partially fluorinated compounds (9—11) and conversion of aromatic compounds to perfluorocycHc compounds (see Fluorine compounds, organic). CoF rarely causes polymerization of hydrocarbons. CoF is also used for the conversion of metal oxides to higher valency metal fluorides, eg, in the assay of uranium ore (12). It is also used in the manufacture of nitrogen fluoride, NF, from ammonia (13). [Pg.178]

Like nitrogen fluorides, compounds having an O—F bond are also very strong oxidants and, when utilized as such, are effective sources of electrophilic fluorine. Because the O—F bond is so weak, the chemistry of such compounds approaches that of F2 itself, and such chemistry can be free radical or electrophilic in nature, depending on the conditions and the reactants. [Pg.226]

The nitrogen fluoride series has an unexpected maximum at NF2 but the sulfur fluorides show alternations in D SFn—F) values with minima at odd-electron molecules. If rehybridization energies at ZXSF4—F) and ZHSF2—F) stages are superimposed on the regular... [Pg.48]

The above book [1] deals, in 26 chapters in 5 sections, with theoretical and practical aspects of the use and safe handling of powerful oxidants and their complementary reactive fuels. Materials include nitrogen pentaoxide, perfluoroam-monium ion and salts, nitronium tetrafluoroborate, hydrazinium mono- and diperchlorates, nitronium perchlorate, tricyanomethyl compounds, difluoramine and its alkyl derivatives, oxygen difluoride, chlorine trifluoride, dinitrogen tetraoxide, bromine trifluoride nitrogen fluorides, and liquid ozone-fluorine system. [Pg.360]

Also, nitrogen trifluoride can he prepared by reaction of ammonia with fluorine diluted with nitrogen in a reactor packed with copper. Other nitrogen fluorides, such as N2F2, N2F4, and NHF2 also are produced. The yield of major product depends on fluorine/ammonia ratio and other conditions. [Pg.656]

In the latter formulae the octets of the halogen atoms are not marked. Recently a second nitrogen fluoride, N2F2, has been prepared the only possible structure is... [Pg.204]
