1-Nitro-n-hexane

Nitro-n-hexane. Use 41 g. of dry silver nitrite, 51 g. of n-hexyl iodide (35-5 ml.) and 100 ml. of sodium dried ether. Reflux on a water bath for 8 hours decant the ethereal solution and wash the sohd well with sodium dried ether. Distil the residue, after the removal of the ether from the combined extracts, from 5 g. of dry silver nitrite, and collect the fraction of b.p. 190-192° (13 g.) as 1-nitro -hexane. The pure compound is obtained by distilling under diminished pressure b.p. 81 6°/15 mm.

Die Reaktion von primaren aliphatischen Aminen wie z.B. 1-Amino-propan Oder 1-Ami-no-hexan mit aktivierten Aryl-halogeniden (z. B. 4-Chlor-l-nitro-benzol) ergibt hohe Aus-beuten an den entsprechenden Anilinen [z. B. 4-Nitro-N-propyl- (93%), N-Hexyl-4-nitro-anilin (65%)], wenn man sie bei 50° unter erhohtem Druck durchfuhrt1. 

Nitro stron (2)/ Claylen was prepared from a mixture of FefNOsJa HjO (45 g Oil mol), K 10 bentonite clay and MeaCO (750 mL) Freshly prepared Clayfen (2 0 g) was added to estrone 1 (0 54 g 2 mmol) and PhMe (150 mL) The suspension was stirred overnight at 20° and filtered under vacuum The yellow filtrate was purified by column chromatography on sdica gel (n-hexane ElOAc 8 2) Evaporation ol the corresponding fraction afforded 0 347 g of 2 (55%) mp 178 180 C... 

N 16.09% OB to C02 —119.42% the cis form is v unstable, hence all measurements are of the trans isomer mobile, pungent colorl liq bp 37° at 10mm d 1.0661g/cc at 20/4° RI 1.4527, 1.4545, 1.4559 (sep measurements). Sol in Na acetate soln, ethanol and hexane. Prepn is by boiling an ethereal soln of j3-nitro isopropyl acetate and K bicarbonate and then recovering the prod by shaking with eth. The trans monomer is unaffected by ambient storage for one year and will not react with w (Ref 3)... 

The final product of the action of nitric acid on hexamine or hexamine dinitrate is RDX see Vol 3, p C614. At low temps, however a number of other compounds are produced (Ref 2). Dilution of the hexamine dinitrate-nitric acid reaction mixture at low temperatures with ethyl ether and subsequent treatment of the gum so obtained with methyl and ethyl alcohols and water severally leads to l-alkoxy-3 5-dinitro-l 3 5-triazacyclohexane (IV), l 3-di-nitro-l 3 5-triaza-n-pentane 5-nitrate (V), and methylenedi-1 -(3 5-dinitro-1 3 5-triaza-cyclo-hexane) (VI). Dilution of the reaction mixture with methyl and ethyl alcohol produces mainly 3 5-dinitro-1 3 5-triazacyclohexane nitrate (II).
