Nickel tetrafluoride

The four localized bond-stretching coordinates, illustrated in Fig. 4.11 for ethylene (D2h) and the nickel tetrafluoride dianion (D4/1), combine in both cases to the same four orthogonal linear combinations ... [Pg.98]

Zirconium tetrafluoride [7783-64-4] is used in some fluoride-based glasses. These glasses are the first chemically and mechanically stable bulk glasses to have continuous high transparency from the near uv to the mid-k (0.3—6 -lm) (117—118). Zirconium oxide and tetrachloride have use as catalysts (119), and zirconium sulfate is used in preparing a nickel catalyst for the hydrogenation of vegetable oil. Zirconium 2-ethyIhexanoate [22464-99-9] is used with cobalt driers to replace lead compounds as driers in oil-based and alkyd paints (see Driers and metallic soaps). [Pg.433]

Unlike nickel catalysts, palladium catalysts undergo neither cyclodimerization nor cyclotrimerization to form COD or CDT. Only one paper by Chepaikin and Khidekel reported that a mixture of divinylcyclobu-tanes was obtained from butadiene using palladium salts with noncom-plexing anions such as perchlorate and boron tetrafluoride (15). This is a big difference between the catalyses of palladium and nickel. [Pg.145]

The other important factor to affect the operational conditions of the cell is the voltage increase between the carbon and copper lead. This problem has been solved individually in industry. For example, a 250 pm thick layer of nickel can be coated onto the upper part of the carbon anode using the atmospheric plasma spraying method.7 This electrode has been operated at 15 to 17 A dm-2 in a 1000 A scale industrial cell for 19 months. The cell voltage was 9.5 V and polarization did not occur with this electrode. Characteristic points of this new carbon electrode are low polarizability and no anode effect, and the concentration of carbon tetrafluoride contaminating the fluorine is below 2 ppm. [Pg.166]

With nickel electrodes under similar conditions decafluorobutane, octafluoropropane, hexa-fluoroethane and carbon tetrafluoride are obtained. [Pg.314]

Sulfur tetrafluoride is thermally stable up to 600 °C. Within the temperature range 600-1000 C, less than 1 % undergoes disproportionation to sulfur hexafluoride and sulfur.24 Most of the common construction metals, such as copper, nickel and steel, are resistant to sulfur tetrafluoride. Mercury also does not react with sulfur tetrafluoride.3 The recommended construction material for work with sulfur tetrafluoride is Hastelloy or stainless steel and, at low pressure,... [Pg.323]

When heated in a nickel vessel to 400°C, xenon can be made to react with fluorine to produce colourless crystals of xenon tetrafluoride. [Pg.240]

Less than a year after Bartlett s report, a group at Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago prepared xenon tetrafluoride by reacting xenon and fluorine gases in a nickel reaction vessel at 400°C and 6 atm ... [Pg.922]

High-purity nitrogen oxide trifluoride has been obtained by fluorolysis of the nickel salt. By first forming this compound, troublesome impurities such as carbon tetrafluoride (from the fluorine) and nitrous oxide (from the nitric oxide) are avoided. The mixture, with nitrosyl fluoride and some nitryl fluoride, is purified chemically by titrating the gas with boron trifluoride, when both of the strongly basic oxyfluorides are removed as fluoroborates ... [Pg.248]

The Fluorination of Platinum Dioxide.—Platinum dioxide, in a nickel boat, was fluorinated at 200° until the product appeared to be homogeneous. It was analysed by pyrohydrolysis to 500° (Found F, 21-4 Ft, 73T. PtOFj requires F, 21-3 Pt, 72-8%). The complex X-ray powder photograph was not indexed. The involatile solid hydrolysed slowly in moist air with water its hydrolysis was similar to that of platinum tetrafluoride. [Pg.267]

Powdered glass, intimately mixed with the tetrafluoride was heated at increasing temperatures in a nickel boat under nitrogen. Samples were taken for X-ray examination at 50° intervals. There was no change below 350°, the photographs then indicated some decomposition to platinum. There was no evidence of lower fluorides. [Pg.268]

Apparatus. Fluorine and bromine trifluoride were used in systems similar to those previously described [24]. A nickel or Monel container was used in the synthesis of each tetrafluoride as detailed below. [Pg.321]

The apparatus used for the preparation and purification of xenon tetrafluoride is shown in Fig. 10.
