Miscellaneous Reactions. 2,4,6,8-Tetraethenyl-2,4,6,8-tetra-methylcyclotetrasiloxane acts as a chelating ligand for a bimetallic nickel(O) complex, similar to Karstedt s catalyst. A number of nickel(II) alkoxyhalides of the types Ni(OMe)X, Ni3(OMe)5X, Ni3(OMe)4X2 (X = halides) and Ni(OMe)Cl MeOH were prepared by reacting either NaOMe or LiOMe with anhydrous nickel halides in methanol.1495 The structures of these complexes which exhibit ferromagnetic behaviour are thought to involve cubane-type clusters. Miscellaneous. Hynes and Moran have carried out kinetic studies on substitution reactions of Pt dithiolate complexes with CN and with several dithiolate ions. In the reactions with the bidentate ligands the mechanism is similar to that proposed for the corresponding reactions of the nickel and palladium complexes, and the order of reactivities is Ni Pd Pt = 10 10 1. Miscellaneous Metal Ions.—Mention has been made already of a relatively slow formation reaction for the normally labile manganese(ii) ion. Incorporations of the labile bivalent metal ions zinc(ii), copper(ii), manganese(n), cobalt(ii), and nickel(n) into water-soluble porphyrin molecules such as tetrakis-(4-N-methyI-pyridyl)porphine, tetrasulphonated tetraphenylporphine, and uroporphine are also relatively slow reactions. However, by taking into account the porphyrin deformation which is necessary, an Id mechanism can be fitted to these reactions. The rates of formation and dissociation of nickel(ii), copper(n), cobalt(ii), and zinc(ii) complexes of the sterically hindered ligand 1,4,8,11-tetramethyl-1,4,8,11-tetra-azacyclotetra-decane (Meicyclam) are also 10 —10 smaller than is normal for these metal ions. ...
