The catalytic partial oxidation of methane to syngas was first reported by Pettree as early as 1946 [1]. More recently, several investigators have studied the reaction mostly on Ni supported catalysts [2-4] and on Ru oxides [5]. In the past several years, Schmidt and coworkers [6-8] have studied the reaction using various noble metals in a monolith reactor. In this configuration, high methane conversions and syngas selectivities were achieved in a reactor operated under autothermal conditions... [Pg.693]

These reactions may occur simultaneously or not, depending on the thermodynamic conditions and especially on the catalyst. In the methanation Ni, catalysts are used, while in Fischer-Tropsch reactions, Fe or Co catalysts are employed. In the reactions for methanol synthesis, mixed oxide catalysts of CuO/ZnO are used, and for the shift reaction, Ni supported catalyst. [Pg.35]

Nickel is the most widely used electro-catalyst in SOEC anodes and therefore, steam reforming of CH4 on Ni supported catalysts have been widely studied [59,58]. The major reactions that CH4 can undergo during reforming or partial oxidation can be summarized as [58]... [Pg.39]

This process has been recently carried out over a Ni-supported catalyst in a microchannel reactor resulting in an excellent catalytic performance in milliseconds (50 ms) contact time. Liu et al. developed a new method to manufacture the metal (FeCralloy)-ceramic (Y-AI2O3) complex substrate needed as catalyst support, called improved thermal spray. Due to the dual function of this substrate, a CO conversion value of above 98% and 92% CH4 selectivity and reliability were found operating at 550 °C, 30 atm, and 71000 h [41]. [Pg.782]
