Many reports have revealed that the DOM-associated transport of metal might be enhanced or inhibited depending on the nature of the DOM and its mobility in soils. Newman et al. (1993) and Jordan et al. (1997) observed the enhanced mobility of Cd, Cu, Cr, and Pb in the presence of DOM. However, Igloria and Hathhom (1994) found opposite results The mobility of the contaminants was limited in a pilot-scale lysimeter, which was attributed to the possibility of significant sorption of DOM and DOM metal on media (Jardine et al., 1989 McCarthy et al., 1993 David and Zech, 1990).
