Crystalline ionic conductors. Superionic conductors have already been briefly introduced in Section 1.2.2.2. They have been known for quite a long time, and a major NATO Advanced Study Institute on such conductors was held as early as 1972 (van Gool 1973). Of course, all ionic crystals are to a greater or lesser extent ionically conducting - usually they are cationic conductors, because cations are smaller than anions. Superionic conductors typically have ionic conductivities lO" times higher than do ordinary ionic crystals such as KCl or AgCl. [Pg.449]

The chapters in this volume were presented at the July 2005 NATO Advanced Study Institute on Advances in Sensing with Security Applications. The conference was held at the beautiful II Ciocco resort near Lucca, in the glorious Tuscany region of northern Italy. Once again we gathered at this idyllic spot to explore and extend the reciprocity between mathematics and engineering. The dynamic interaction between world-renowned scientists from the usually disparate communities of pure mathematicians and applied scientists which occurred at our six previous ASI s continued at this meeting. [Pg.385]

This publication was initiated on the occasion of the NATO-Advanced Study Institute (ASI) meeting Stem Cells and their potential for clinical application which took place from August 23 - 25, 2006 in Kyiv and from August 26-31, 2006 in Simeiz, Ukraine. The meeting was devoted to hot topics in Stem cell research such as Regulation of Haematopoietic and Non-haematopoietic Stem Cells, Clinical Application of Stem Cells, Preclinical Models and Gene Therapy. [Pg.284]

The organisers as well as the participants of the Stem Cells and their potential for clinical application -meeting are most grateful to the NATO-Advanced Study Institute for the generous support which made this conference possible. [Pg.286]
