Another attempt was made to classify the industry based on production of final product. The Kline Guide in 1974 defined the various classes of bulk pharmaceutical final products. Based on that, the NFIC-Denever (recently renamed NEIC, National Enforcement Investigation Center), Washington, D.C., classified the pharmaceutical industry into three major categories as depicted in Table 1 [3]. [Pg.168]

The Board continues to invest significant resources in these initiatives, as requested by the international community, in particular by acting as a focal point for the exchange of information. It has also consistently urged national authorities to make available appropriate resources to support these operational activities. The new combined operations will give further impetus to precursor control and, at the same time, place more responsibilities on competent authorities, for example for launching law enforcement investigations. [Pg.83]

To help in law enforcement, a federal law was enacted in 1994 that established a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) national DNA database called CODIS (Combined DNA Index System). By 1998, all 50 states had passed laws that require aU persons convicted of serious sex offenses and other crimes to provide a sample of blood for DNA analysis. The marker results are entered into the CODIS database, along with the results of crime scene samples. The methods and panel of markers used are standardized for all states so that results from a sample tested in one state can be compared with all the files in the database. Some groups argue that requiring a blood sample is a... [Pg.140]

During the past several weeks, we have engaged in correspondence with the fire marshals of forty-one states. Many of them corresponded with other law enforcement agencies and national investigators. A few of them flatly stated that they had experienced nothing of this nature. Many others, however, expressed grave concern as to the possibilities raised by the thought of such crimes. Still others went so far as to say that they may have encountered electronic devices in this context but were not able to prove it. [Pg.286]

The DBA has several missions. First, the DBA enforces U.S. controlled substances laws as they pertain to the manufacture, distribution, and dispensing of controlled substances. Second, the DBA investigates and prepares for prosecution organizations and principal members of organizations involved in the growing, manufacture, or distribution of controlled substances for illicit traffic. Third, the DBA liaises with the United Nations, Interpol, and other organizations to reduce the availability of illicit controlled substances, both domestically and internationally. [Pg.282]

A further challenge to an empirical investigation of the role of OELs in enforcement is that the present structure of Labour Inspectorate databases means that a comprehensive analysis of enforcement activity, in as far as it addresses efforts to regulate chemical risk management and the inspectorate s use of OELs in this respect is not possible. Therefore some indicative results of local investigations undertaken expressly for this study are presented to supplement the rather meagre evidence that can be gained from examination of national data. [Pg.238]
