Combined operations

If it is desired to carry out the combined operations of stirring, refluxing, and addition of a liquid in a stream of gas, the apparatus of Fig. 77, 7, 12, a may be used the side tube for the gas is sealed on to the separatory funnel. For the passage of a gas into a stirred liquid, the aperture carrying the modified separatory funnel may be fitted with the device shown in Fig. 77, 7, 12, 6 the glass rod inside the tube is held in position by a short length of heavy-wall rubber tubing and is employed to clear the lower end of the gas delivery tube, should it become blocked with solid reaction product. [Pg.67]

FIG. 22-42 Four alternative modes of contimioiis-flow operation with a foam-fractionation column (1) The simple mode is illustrated hy the solid lines. (2) Enriching operation employs the dashed reflux line. (3) In stripping operation, the elevated dashed feed line to the foam replaces the solid feed line to the pool. (4) For combined operation, reflux and elevated feed to the foam are both employed. [Pg.2018]

The network and fan combination operating point can be obtained from Eq. (9.134). [Pg.769]

S , Rotation of the molecule through an angle 360°/n followed by reflection of all atoms through a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation the combined operation (which may equally follow the sequence reflection then rotation) is called improper rotation-,... [Pg.1290]

Figure 12-143 shows the curves for identical fans. When unlike fens are placed in series, the individual static and total pressure curves are placed on the graph. The individual curves for assumed fans No. 1 and No. 2 and the system resistance curve define the system. The combined total pressure curve is the sum of the individual values at the same capacity. Then total combined pressure curve = Pft (No. 1) + Pft (No. 2). The new combined operating static pressure curve is the sum of the individual static pressure valves at the same capacity and exists only at the oudet of the second fan then, the total combined static pressure = Pfti + Pftg — Ps. Any losses in connections between the fans will reduce the values of the total static and system total pressures. [Pg.567]

Xenobiotics are metabolized in two phases. The major reaction of phase 1 is hydroxylation catalyzed by a variety of monooxygenases, also known as the cytochrome P450s. In phase 2, the hydroxylated species are conjugated with a variety of hydrophihc compounds such as glucuronic acid, sulfate, or glutathione. The combined operation of these two phases renders lipophilic compounds into water-soluble compounds that can be ehminated from the body. [Pg.632]

Thus, loops, utility paths and stream splits offer the degrees of freedom for manipulating the network cost. The objective function in new design is usually to minimize total cost, that is, combined operating and annualized capital cost. The annualization period chosen for the capital cost will have a direct influence on the optimization. A longer annualization period will lead to more energy-efficient designs. [Pg.414]

Section 2.4 abstracts from individual objects and snapshots of their attribute values to a type model, which characterizes all objects having these attributes. Here, we introduce parameterized attributes graphical associations between objects, collections of objects, and type constants and type combination operators. [Pg.71]

Why must the invariants be absorbed into the action specs They must be absorbed because it s the pre- and postconditions that are the real behavioral spec An invariant is only a way of factoring out common assumptions made by all those within its own context. Outside that context, the same common assumptions might not apply (see Section 3.5.5), so we must make them specific in any pre- and postcondition we want to move out of the context. After all the actions have been combined, you can probably factor out a common invariant that occurs in all the combined operation specs. [Pg.349]

The putrefaction of metallic seed must, like that of animal and vegetable seed, take place through the cooperation of the four elements. I have already explained that the elements themselves are not the seed. But it ought by this time to be clear to you that the metallic seed which was produced by the combined operation of heavenly, sidereal, and elementary essences, and reduced into bodily form, must, in due course, be corrupted and putrefied by means of the elements. [Pg.56]

Based on these definitions, combination operators can be defined. For example, it is possible to build a unique elementary mass function m from two... [Pg.209]

Since the combination operation performs all intersections between the focal elements of each refined belief assignment, this method of refinement/ combination/ coarsening guarantees that all the possible cross-checks have been done. The focal elements resulting of the projection have the highest level of details allowed by the whole information put in the decision system. This means that if there was no crosschecking relation for a sensor, then the only focal element would be the one of total doubt, i.e. 17. ... [Pg.219]

The fermentation required about seven days at 42 to 45 C. at pH 7 to 7.5. In very dilute solutions the yield of acid is about 75% of the weight of the sugar fermented. This type of fermentation appears to be adaptable for a combined operation where ethyl alcohol is produced as a first step and acid as a second from the residual sugars. [Pg.184]

One deficiency was lack of inter-service preparation for combined operations. Sir Ian Hamilton, the general in charge at the Dardanelles, was ignorant of the existence of the armoured landing craft that Fisher had ordered for service in the Baltic until told of their existence by naval officers of the Mediterranean fieet. These specialised vessels were not available to him until over three months after the first landings on the Gallipoli peninsula. Most troops went ashore in open boats towed by lighters, and consequently suffered heavy casualties from enemy fire. [Pg.58]

Gallipoli. Matters were no more advanced by the Norwegian campaign in 1940. However, amphibious operations became a major feature of the Second World War and investment in commando carriers and specialist landing craft after 1957 for the East of Suez role raised British capability for combined operations to new levels of efficiency. Once more there is no clear trend here from a naval to an air or nuclear phase in the British way of warfare. [Pg.349]

The over-all material balance, prepared for the test period on the combined operation of the thermal reformer and the polymerization unit, appears in Table II. It is based on the streams actually fed and produced. Table III shows the debutanized reformate and debutanized polymer streams separately and as a combined stream. Laboratory inspections of the debutanized reformate and of the debutanized reformate plus polymer blend are presented in Table I. [Pg.67]
