The engineering schools in Naples, Rome, Torino, and Milano had been supplemented by three more in Bologna (started in 1874), Padua (1880), and Palermo (1886). The school in Milano was an entirely independent institution Bologna, Naples, and Torino were independent schools who admitted students after they had taken two years of mathematics, physics, and chemistry at the local university the other schools were part of the local university all schools were regulated by the law of October 8, 1876. A School of Engineering was established in Rome in 1817 by Pope Pius VII. Up to the unification of Italy in 1860, the two schools in Naples and Rome were the only ones where a (supposedly) complete...
