Naphtho dithiophene

An intramolecular double Horner-Wittig reaction of dialdehyde 861 using NaOMe as base provides the naphtho-dithiophene 862 <2002BCJ1795>.

In benzo[d]naphtho[l,2-d ]benzo[l,2-b 4,3-b ]dithiophene 118 two thiophene units are incorporated. 

The [6]heterohelicenes, according to their different geometry comprising less steric interactions of the terminal aromatic rings, racemize easier. The kinetic data of some of these helicenes are known benzo[d]naphtho[l,2-d ]benzo[l,2-b 4,3-b ]dithiophene (775) and thieno[3,2-e]benzo[l,2-b 4,3-b ]benzothiophene (735) racemize at room temperature in solution (Fig, 48, Table 12)...
