Nanosilica medical applications

Interaction of HPF with nanosilica is of special interest because of the medical applications of this material, especially as a component of tourniquet preparations. Therefore, here we will analyze adsorption interactions of fibrinogen with nanosilica depending on concentration of components, salinity, and pH. Application of several methods such as (i) adsorption of HPF from the aqueous solutions (ii) UV and FTIR spectroscopy of adsorbed layer with HPF and (iii) TSDC and H NMR spectroscopy with layer-by-layer freezing-out of bulk and bound water interacting with HPF and HPF/nanosilica allows us to deeply understand features of interaction of HPF with silica NP that is of importance for elucidation of the mechanism of interaction of nanosilica preparations with blood.

Elsewhere, various other hollow mesoporous nanosilica have also been explored for their medical applications. Zhou et al. discussed the use of hollow silica nanospheres with magnetic nanoparticles (e.g. Fe304) within the pores to deliver ibu-profen. When the drug had been stored inside the pores, the openings were encapsulated [17]. As a consequence, the size of the nanospheres was of the order of a few hundred nanometers, while the magnetic Fe304 nanoparticles were about 5-10 nm. It should be noted here that these nanomaterials were used exclusively for delivery purposes. 

Hybrid latex particles find their applications in coatings, adhesives, plastics, and specialty applications like medical diagnostics. In the last 10 years, an increased interest in hybrid latex particles in both scientific communities and industry can be observed. Especially the incorporation of clay platelets and nanosilica particles in latexes can be regarded as main areas of interest in the field of polymer colloids at the moment. Scientific meetings over the past 3 years have featured many contributions in this direction from all over the world.
