Muzzle flash suppressors

Accdg to Tavernier (Ref 44, p 252), Rottweil Fabrik of Germany proposed vaseline with 1—2% Na bicarbonate as muzzle-flash suppressor. This was replaced in 1907 by soap or rosin... [Pg.150]

Flash Hide r or Muzzle Flash Suppressor (Dampfer, in Ger). A metallic cone and/or flat disks which ate attached to the muzzle of a gun to conceal the flash when the gun is fired and to prevent temporary blindness of the crew while firing... [Pg.459]

Suppressor, Flash. See under Flash-Reducing (or Antiflash) Agents in Vol 6, F96-L to F100-L, and Flash Hider or Muzzle Flash Suppressor in Vol 6, F77-L AddnlRefs 1) Anon, EngrgDesHndbk, Spectral Characteristics of Muzzle Flash , AMCP 706-255 (1967) 2) Anon, EngrgDesHndbk,... [Pg.481]

Accdg to Tavernier (Ref 44, p 252), WASAG patented as muzzle flash suppressor... [Pg.153]

In addition, the law banned all semiautomatic weapons that are equipped with a detachable magazine and two or more of the following bayonet lug, flash suppressor, protruding pistol grip, folding stock, or threaded muzzle. Magazines that hold more than 10 rounds are also prohibited. Weapons and magazines manufactured before September 13, 1994, however, are exempt. [Pg.38]

Flash Reducer. In US Ordnance, any material issued separately for use with a propelling charge to reduce its muzzle flash. Differs from "flash suppressor (qv)... [Pg.478]

A flash suppressor, however, can incorporate features that reduce the intensity of the noise. If this type muzzle device can be developed to the point where both flash, and noise can be reduced to acceptable limits, two knotty problems become solved siniultaneousiy. A large amount of effort has been expended on flash suppressors considerably less on noise inhibitors. A measure of success has been achieved in the suppression of noise thru exptn. No general design procedures, either theoretical or empiri-... [Pg.388]

A measure of success has been achieved in the suppression of noise but usually as a by-product of the development of another type of muzzle device, such as a flash suppressor General Requirements. Noise is an inherent characteristic of a gun and is usually associated with three main producers the projectile, the muzzle, and the gun components other than the muzzle. The noises produced by the gun components are mostly mechanical such as the sounds of moving parts, impact, and vibration. The projectile noises are mainly those caused by air turbulence following the projectile and the supersonic shock wave or ballistic crack generated by the projectile nose. Muzzle noises are produced by the air pressure build-up in the tube ahead of the projectile and by the proplnt gases issuing from the muzzle after the projectile passage... [Pg.389]

Two distinct procedures may be used. The preferred method is to use a large thread cutting lathe, or a lathe and V x28 EF (Extra Fine)Die to turn down and thread muzzle to specs given in fig.3. This will duplicate the Colt M-16/AR-15 and Armalite AR 18/AR 180 muzzle dimensions. The %x28 pattern will allow installation of the Sionics Suppressors and other accessories available for the above guns. Maximum allowable misalignment of threads to bore axis 1 so it may prove a wise move to farm out the job to a competent machin-ist/gunsmith. No need to mention the suppressor, you only want to mount an M-16 flash hider. [Pg.106]

The sniper in the field must take all possible care to avoid the compromising of his position to the enemy. Obviously, an advantage in his favor would be the suppression of flash and muzzle noise to eliminate the enemy from picking up the source of fire. The 5.56 mm suppressor is a device designed to deceive persons forward of the firer as to the exact location of the weapon and its operator. [Pg.107]

Although the suppressor will eliminate muzzle blast noise, flash and smoke, a super sonic crack will be heard when standard 5.56 NATO or commercial. 223 ammo is used. If special circumstances dictate maximum sound control and allow for reduced range and stopping power, the crack can be eliminated by firing specially loaded subsonic rounds. [Pg.113]
