Description of the illustrations. "This poem was first printed in Nicolas Barnaud, Triga chemica de lapide philosophico tractatus tres..., Leiden 1599, but without illustrations. This was reprinted in volume III of the Theatrum Chemicum, 1602. It was issued by Lucas Jennis three times in 1625 with a series of 15 emblems. The three books issued were Dyas chymica tripartita, the Musaeum hermeticum, and De lapide philosophico.

Noting his other illustration (fig. 5b) to have been derived from the Sixth Key of Basil Valentine (but specifically as reprinted in the Musaeum Hermeticum), Poisson succinctly explains that this other picture represents Union ou manage du Roi et de la Reine," that is ... 

All the preceding may be taken to constitute further evidence that an alchemical anthology called the Musaeum Hermeticum was yet another bouquin (old book, or incunabtdum) that had been frequently handled and studied by Marcel Duchamp.

Musaeum Hermeticum, 648-99. As attributed to Philalethe, this treatise—cited as the Entree ouverte au palais — was mentioned several times by Albert Poisson (Theories, 68, 88, 92, 99, 117, 145). A modem translation appeared in 1970 see Philolethe.
