Multistep functionalization

Figure 5.18 (a) Description of the successive diamond surface functionaiization steps first, amination with rf piasma, then aminoiy-sis with 4-pentynoic acid, yne coupling using a thiolated oligonucleotide. (Modified from Ref. [180] with permission.) (b) Illustration of the multistep functionalization of BDD... [Pg.200]

Functionalization of double bonds in PBDs can lead to more stable products, which is important in long(er)-term applications, or can generate reactive intermediates that are susceptible to nucleophilic reactions. The latter leads to multistep functionalization at the backbone, which is discussed further in Sect. 3. [Pg.170]

As an example for an efficient yet quite accurate approximation, in the first part of our contribution we describe a combination of a structure adapted multipole method with a multiple time step scheme (FAMUSAMM — fast multistep structure adapted multipole method) and evaluate its performance. In the second part we present, as a recent application of this method, an MD study of a ligand-receptor unbinding process enforced by single molecule atomic force microscopy. Through comparison of computed unbinding forces with experimental data we evaluate the quality of the simulations. The third part sketches, as a perspective, one way to drastically extend accessible time scales if one restricts oneself to the study of conformational transitions, which arc ubiquitous in proteins and are the elementary steps of many functional conformational motions. [Pg.79]

An excellent alternative route to 5,6-seco-acids of general structure (69) has been used by Knof to prepare B-norsteroids. Although the single-step chromium trioxide oxidation process described in section III-A is convenient when starting materials are readily available and relatively low yields are acceptable, the multistep Knof process may be preferred when high yields are important or when a sensitive functionality is present. [Pg.433]

Enzymes function through a pathway that involves initial formation of an enzyme-substrate complex E S, a multistep chemical conversion of the enzyme-bound substrate into enzyme-bound product E - P, and final release of product from the complex. [Pg.1041]

Hematopoietic (blood) cells transport oxygen and carbon dioxide, contribute to host immunity, and facilitate blood clotting [1], A complex, interrelated, and multistep process, called hematopoiesis, controls the production as well as the development of specific marrow cells from immature precursor cells to functional mature blood cells. This well-regulated process also allows for replacement of cells lost through daily physiologic activities. The proliferation of precursor cells, the maturation of these into mature cells, and the survival of hematopoietic cells require the presence of specific growth factors. [Pg.579]

Tractable polymers can be prepared when amino and anhydride functions are not located on the same aromatic ring, and different strategies were employed to obtain soluble polymer. AB benzhydrol imide was prepared by polycondensation of 4-(3-amino-l-hydroxymethylene) phtlialic acid monomethyl ester in NMP. The polymer soluble in NMP has been used as adhesive and coating.56 A second approach was based on an ether imide structure. AB aminophenylether phthalic acids (Fig. 5.34) were prepared by a multistep synthesis from bisphenols.155 The products are stable as hydrochloride, and the polycondensation takes place by activation with triphenylphosphite. The polymers are soluble in an aprotic polar... [Pg.305]

Figure 21.3 Modeling and simulation in the general context of the study of xenobiot-ics. The network of signals and regulatory pathways, sources of variability, and multistep regulation that are involved in this problem is shown together with its main components. It is important to realize how between-subject and between-event variation must be addressed in a model of the system that is not purely structural, but also statistical. The power of model-based data analysis is to elucidate the (main) subsystems and their putative role in overall regulation, at a variety of life stages, species, and functional (cell to organismal) levels. Images have been selected for illustrative purposes only. See color plate. Figure 21.3 Modeling and simulation in the general context of the study of xenobiot-ics. When a multistep synthesis is being undertaken with other sensitive functional groups present in the molecule, milder reagents and reaction conditions may be necessary. As a result, many alternative methods for effecting interconversion of the carboxylic acid derivatives have been developed and some of the most useful reactions are considered... [Pg.243]

Several systems have been reported regarding the connection between oligoferrocenylene multistep redox reactions and the functions of other molecular units. Colbert et al. have reported Mn and Ru complex-conjugated biferrocene derivatives, 20, showing large electron... [Pg.59]

Tetramethyl-l,3-disilacyclobutane had been prepared earlier by Knoth and Lindsey [10], but a multistep synthesis was involved which was not generalizable to the synthesis of Si-functional 1,3-disilacyclobutanes. The reaction shown in eq. 4, provided it is carried out in the right way, represents a good, general route to 1,3-disilacyclobutanes. This reaction was reported first by Muller and his coworkers [11]. In this work, diethyl ether was used as reaction solvent and the product yield was only around 4%. Somewhat better yields were obtained" by Russian workers [12], but it was the detailed studies of the (chloromethyl)chlorosilane/ magnesium reaction by Kriner [13] which provided a good synthesis of... [Pg.23]

The multistep radical elimination may involve the generation of discrete intermediates, which for instance could be formed by a cyclization process7) such as 15- 16- 17e). Alternatively, there may be no intermediate involved in the elimination sequence, but the actual transition states 19, 22 are substantially lower in energy due to the anchimeric assistance of suitable functional groups9,10) (4). [Pg.8]
