Thus, according to the definitions, diesel fuel (or gas oil) is not a heating fuel but a motor fuel. Incidentally, heavy fuel can be considered a heating fuel or a motor fuel depending on its application in a burner or in a marine diesel engine. 

Some applications of the synthetic fluids are motor oil, trucks, marine diesel, transmissions and industrial lubricants, aviation and aerospace lubricants, fire-resistant fluids, and greases. Specifications for several military lubricants can be met only by a synthetic product. All commercial and military jet aircraft engines use synthetic lubricants, in addition to the space shuttle, NASA, and nuclear submarines. 

Crankcase oil or motor oil may be either petroleum-based or synthetic. The petroleum-based oils are more widely used than the synthetic oils and may be used in automotive engines, railroad and truck diesel engines, marine equipment, jet and other aircraft engines, and most small two- and four-stroke engines.
