A potent irreversible inhibitor (abbreviated DFP) of many serine proteinases and serine esterases (especially acetylcholinesterase). This substance is EXTREMELY POISONOUS, but the vapor state can be minimized by using dry, water-miscible solvents such as 2-propanoL. Aqueous solutions become inactivated by hydrolysis, but solutions made with dry 2-propanol are stable at -20°C for many months. 

Print out each article that you decide to use. Be sure to print the enf/re article. A common mistake is to print the text but not the references. Check to be sure the printout includes full bibliographic information (i.e., the full and abbreviated journal name and the article s title, authors, volume, year, and inclusive page numbers). For a Web-based article, write down the full Web address and the month and year that you accessed the site. 

The following units of time are not abbreviated day, week, month, and year. 

Business letters should be dated with the date the letter is completed and sent. Sometimes, it can take several days to complete a business letter (you may have multiple drafts or need to wait for a supervisor s approval before you can send a letter)— use the last day you worked on the letter in these cases. Write out the month, day, and year October 12,2001. Don t abbreviate the month or include the day of the week.

The director of pharmacy uses an expense report prepared on a monthly or weekly basis. In this report, all pharmacy department expenses are categorized into at least five major sections. Each expense is also given a unique code so that not only the pharmacy department but also the hospitals central accounting office can access and monitor expenses. The expense report indicates the amount budgeted for each expense, the actual expense incurred, the variance between budgeted and incurred expenses, and the variance percentage. Table 15-10 shows an abbreviated, simplified expense report for the pharmacy department of a large tertiary-care hospital.

If there were no new inputs of chlorine into the stratosphere, eventually all of the chlorine would be inactivated (i.e., it would eventually not be in the form of CI2, Cl, or CIO). The inactivation reactions produce HC1 and C10N02. In the relatively warm months in the Antarctic stratosphere, these two compounds are in the gas phase as opposed to condensed on solid phases (such as ice particles). Note that we will use abbreviations in the reactions to indicate the phases (s) and (g) mean in the solid and gas phases, respectively. 

Use the following abbreviations (with no periods) or spelled-out forms for months with a day or with a day and year in footnotes, tables, figure captions, bibliographies, and lists of literature cited.

The SCI is designed to make up for this gap. The citation index of SCI lists all papers, patents, or books cited in a given year or 2-month period (by first author only) and then gives a list of papers that have done the citing. The index is published bimonthly and cumulated annually. For example, column 43,901 of the 1989 citation index shows that the Jencks paper mentioned above was cited as a footnote in 16 papers published in 1989. It is reasonable to assume that most of the papers that cited the Jencks paper were on closely related subjects. For each of the 16 papers are listed the first author, journal abbreviation, volume and page numbers, and year. In a similar manner, if one consulted SCI for all the years from 1968 on, one would have a complete list of papers that cited that paper. One could obviously broaden the search by then consulting SCI (from 1989 on) for papers that cited these 16 papers, and so on. Papers, patents, or books listed, for example, in the 1989 SCI may go back many years (e.g., papers published by Einstein in 1905 and 1906 are included). The only... 

In formal writing, do not abbreviate the names of days, months, centuries, states, countries, or units of measure. Do not use an ampersand ( ) unless it is an official part of a title.
