Mono pumps

The Metafilter is very robust and is economical in use because there is no filter cloth and the bed is easily replaced and hence labour charges are low. Mono pumps or diaphragm pumps are most commonly used for feeding the filter. These are discussed in Volume 1, Chapter 8. 

Tests conducted on the Hutton produced-water system used a two-stage mono pump installed downstream of the produced-water flash lank, which collects water from first, second, and test separators under interface-level control. 

An updated design comprises recirculation of a pre-cooled hydrocarbon liquid with an mono-pump. The quench medium is immiscible with pyrolysis liquids due to the low polarity compared to pyrolysis liquids and can therefore be separated in the lower part of the quenching column and passed into the reservoir (7). Resisting aerosols are collected by electrostatic precipitators. Additionally, a cooler was installed to remove the fluidising gas from traces of lower volatile compounds (water etc.) (11).
