Monitoring position equivalency

Current federal regulations limit the deep dose equivalent based on that part of the body likely to receive the highest exposure. If personal monitor results are not available or the personal monitor was not located at the position of highest exposure, the regulations allow the substitution of surveys and other radiation measurements (NRC, 1991). These requirements strongly influence the current practices in the United States for the number and location of personal monitors on individuals. [Pg.12]

Pathway C seemed to be especially attractive, because it should enable addition of acyl anion equivalents to a large number of readily accessible activated carboxylic acids (Figure 3.6.10). Thus diversity in all relevant positions should be readily attainable. High-loaded triphenyl phosphine resin 12 (1.6 mmol g-1) was alkylated with bromoacetonitrile under the action of microwave irradiation yielding phos-phonium salt 13 quantitatively. 13 was converted into stable ylide 14 by treatment with tertiary amine. Carboxylic acids were activated in the presence of N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N -ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC) and reacted with 14 yielding acyl cyanophosphoranes 15. The reaction was monitored by ATR-IR coupling yields could be determined by spectrophotometric Fmoc-determination and were 90% for Fmoc-phenylalanine as reference amino acid. [Pg.287]

Although the two-fold symmetry displayed by the reaction centre is striking, it is only a pseudo-symmetry, because differences in the amino aeid sequences of the L and M subunits result in small differences in the positions and relative orientations of equivalent cofactors on the two branehes, and in differences of the protein environment of equivalent cofactors. The root cause of the functional asymmetry that is observed when electron transfer is monitored is therefore asymmetry in the detailed structure of the cofactor protein system on the two branches. Assuming that the transmembrane electron transfer process can basically be described as a non-adiabatic electron transfer reaction according to the Marcus equation, this... [Pg.644]

Differential thermal analysis (DTA) represents an improvement to the melting point determination in that the difference in temperature between the sample and a reference is monitored as a function of temperature. As long as no thermal transitions take place, the temperature of the sample and the reference will be the same because the heat capacities of the two are roughly equivalent. However, differences in temperature between the sample and reference are manifested when changes occur that require a finite heat of reaction. If AH for the transition is positive (endothermic reaction), the temperature of... [Pg.71]
