No testing was done as part of this investigation of interceptor and monitoring wells drilled on-site but a number of tests were made on Thornton Spring water samples 0.9 km below the plant. [Pg.269]

The Company and its consultant decided more monitoring wells were needed to better define the situation, and a new drilling program was initiated. [Pg.20]

Storage costs basically include screening and exploration costs, well-drilling costs and injection equipment and flowline costs. On top of that come costs for measurement, monitoring and verification (MMV) of C02 storage. There is a large variation for the storage cost estimations of C02. Some indications can be found, for example,... [Pg.183]

The county landfill in the diagram was monitored to verify that toxic compounds were not leaching into the local water supply. Wells drilled at 21 locations were monitored over a year and pollutants were observed only at sites 8, 11. 12, and 13. Monitoring all 21 sites each month is very expensive. Suggest a strategy to use composite samples (Box 0-1) made from more than one well at a time to reduce the cost of routine monitoring. How will your scheme affect the minimum detectable level for pollutants at a particular site ... [Pg.663]

Identify and secure a subcontractor for specialized sampling, such as the drilling for the installation of monitoring wells and placing of boreholes for soil sampling... [Pg.87]

Injection and monitoring systems. An injection well (A in Fig. 16.7), 500 m deep, was drilled into the lower confined limestone aquifer, and later a second well (B) was drilled 400 m west of the first one. A deep monitoring well, 400 m south of A, was drilled into the receiving aquifer. A shallow monitoring well was drilled into the upper limestone aquifer, 30 m from injection well A. Hence, changes in the chemical composition could be monitored both in the receiving and overlying aquifers. [Pg.351]

Several methods are available for the drilling and installation of monitor wells. The advantages and disadvantages relating to ease of construction, character of formations penetrated, well diameter and depth, risks of contamination, and intended use of the well have been reported by several investigators ( 5, 6, 7). All field personnel should be thoroughly familiar with well specifications, quality assurance/quality control procedures, and safety plans and requirements prior to installation of monitor wells. [Pg.166]

Drilling. Common drill rigs available for monitor-well installation include cable tool, air rotary, mud rotary, reverse rotary, and hollow-stem auger. The cable tool rig repeatedly lifts and drops a drill bit, drill stem, drilling jars, and rope socket. The drill bit crushes hard rock or loosens unconsolidated material and mixes the loosened particles with water to form a slurry or sludge. The sludge is removed at intervals by a sand pump or a bailer. [Pg.166]
