The first thionitrosyl complex was discovered by chance during an attempted synthesis of molybdenum nitrido complexes in the presence of a source of sulfur, tetrathiuram sulfide.168 This work of Dilworth and Chatt was reported in 1974 and ultimately led to the syntheses of a range of Mo, Re and Os thionitrosyl complexes starting with the respective nitrido complexes.143,164 Nitrosyl complexes, like carbonyls, had been known for decades, and the more recent syntheses of thio-carbonyl complexes forebode the advent of thionitrosyl complexes. However, convenient synthetic routes based on analogies with syntheses of NO complexes were generally not available because the requisite precursors did not exist or were inconvenient to handle. Sulfiliminato complexes (M=N=SR2) of transition metals are as yet unknown. The chemistry of thionitrosyl complexes was the subject of a recent review.179... [Pg.118]

For mononuclear complexes, reactions at coordinated ligands is a topic of major study, and numerous reviews and even books have been written on this topic. At the time of writing this review, the authors could find no major review articles in this area for dinuclear compoimds. The best examples are probably those on the reactions of coordinated molybdenum sulfides discussed earlier. A related observation is the reaction of metal carbonyls with Lewis acids. It has been observed by Shriver and coworkers that carbonyl ligands bridging metal-metal bond atoms show increased tendency to coordinate Lewis acids (equation 96). [Pg.1157]

The following metal compounds are used for the preparation of the catalysts oxides, metal carbonyls, halides, alkyl and allyl complexes, as well as molybdenum, tungsten, and rhenium sulfides. Oxides of iridium, osmium, ruthenium, rhodium, niobium, tantalum, lanthanum, tellurium, and tin are effective promoters, although their catalytic activity is considerably lower. Oxides of aluminum, silicon, titanium, manganese, zirconium as well as silicates and phosphates of these elements are utilized as supports. Also, mixtures of oxides are used.
