Molluscs Littorina

The ot-L-fucosidase from the marine mollusc Littorina littorea has been purified only one form was detectable by isoelectric focusing at pH 5.4. L-Fucose was a competitive inhibitor and Hg + ion was a non-competitive inhibitor of the enzyme (mol. wt. 2.2 x 10 , pH optimum 6.5, Km 3.0 x 10 M and Fmax 2.6 (xmol mg min for 4-nitrophenyl a-L-fucopyranoside). The enzyme proved to be a glycoprotein containing D-glucose (7.4), D-galactose (2.2), D-mannose (1.8), and 2-amino-2-deoxy-D-hexose (2.2%). [Pg.392]

An agarase has been isolated from the mollusc Littorina mandshurica by affinity chromatography on agarose. The preparation was free from endogenous cellulase and xylanase activities. [Pg.363]

The half-time persistence (Tb 1/2) of zinc in whole molluscs is extremely variable, and reported to range from 4 days in the common mussel (Mytilus edulis) to 650 days in the duck mussel (Anodonta nutalliana) intermediate values were 23 to 40 days in limpet (Littorina irroratea), 76 days in the California mussel (Mytilus californianus), and 300 days in the Pacific oyster (NAS 1979). Zinc persistence in selected organs also shows considerable variability and may be significantly different from Tb 1/2 values seen in whole animal. For example, the Tb 1/2 of zinc in... [Pg.699]
