In addition MOLY contains a large number of utility programs which allow for efficient molecular storage, retrieval, orientation and display. The system is written entirely in FORTRAN and executes on an IBM 370/158 under the MVS operating system and the TSO time-sharing system. An important development in the field in the last decade is the preparation of the hexameric pyrogallol[4]arene MONCs, some of which are based on mixed metals with properties that are only now being explored. These MONCs change shapes in solution as demonstrated by SANS. The MONCs that allow entrapment and transport of metal cations could well be found useful in the future as molecular storage devices and even as drug delivery systems due to their high stability. It will be of interest to determine whether such systems are sufficiently stable in aqueous solutions.

In molecular storage, recent work predicts a solid boron hydride material, wherein boron chains are held together by hydrogen atoms bound to multiple boron centers on different chains [103]. Bonds of this type are well known in higher boranes, and exploiting them to make network solids instead of compounds appears a worthwhile experimental endeavor.
