Molecular Modelling and Computational Chemistry

Molecular modelling is mainly devoted to the study of molecular structure. Computational chemistry is the application of all kinds of calculations, mainly numerical, to the study of molecular structure. It can be considered as a subset of the more general field of molecular modelling because its computations occur as a result of the application of the models. [Pg.25]

Pocket HyperChem 1.1 is the first chemistry software to run on Windows CE based devices. This product provides the basic molecular modeling and computational chemistry functionality of HyperChem on a portable Palmtop PC platform, allowing the user to work in environments beyond those possible with desktop PC s or notebook computers. [Pg.150]

As used here and expounded on in Volume 1, molecular modeling refers to the generation, manipulation, and/or representation of realistic molecular structures and associated physicochemical properties. The terms molecular modeling and computational chemistry are used interchangeably. [Pg.383]

The combination of analytical pyrolysis, molecular modeling, and computational chemistry has also been stressed in investigating the structure of HS. It was reported that computational chemistry which allows to draw, construct and optimize in 3D space biomacromolecules, e.g., aquatic and terrestrial humic substances, with precise bond distances, bond angles, torsion angles, nonbonded distances, hydrogen bonds, charges, and chirality is a powerful tool, and molecular visualization and simulation can also be used to further understand the structure and dynamics of humic and dissolved organic matter. [Pg.1169]

Much molecular modelling and computational chemistry has been carried out on the structures of individual molecules where the covalent bond is of prime importance, but relatively little attention has been paid to the modelling of structures and properties of the entities formed by the interaction of two or more small molecules. This interaction is of major importance in many aspects of chemistry including for example molecular recognition. [Pg.207]

The ultimate aim of molecular modeling and computational chemistry is to aid in the development of understanding of particular properties of molecules and then to lead in the design of molecules with vastly improved effect properties. The key is the determination of the structure/activity relationships that might exist. It is possible to calculate properties that can be related to the effect property being marketed. Potential parameters that can be calculated include... [Pg.151]

At the University of South Alabama, the Computational Chemistry course presented in Table 3 is currently offered as a special topics course to junior and senior undergraduate students in chemistiy, but will soon be a requited upper level course for the chemistry majors. Delivered by Prof. J. D. Madura, it is designed to provide an introduction to some of the techniques used in molecular modeling and computational chemistry, and to illustrate how these techniques... [Pg.2962]

There are several reasons why molecular modeling and computational chemistry are increasingly being incorporated into the undergraduate curriculum. The use of these techniques has expanded beyond physical chemistry to all fields of chemistry, to calculate molecular conformations, thermodynamic properties, and molecular spectra. Molecular modeling plays a key role in many synthetic studies, especially in the pharmaceutical industry. The price of both hardware and software has decreased so much that most campuses can now afford to have their students do calculations that would have been a major research problem only a few years ago. [Pg.2975]
