Molecular dynamics molten polymers

For non-polymeric or low-molecular-weight molten polymers, the dynamic contact angle is related to the spreading velocity by Tanner s law, given by ... [Pg.134]

In the molecular-kinetic theory of molten polymers there is another approach to the problem which does not employ the notion of engagements. It is based on the analysis of dynamics of individual macromolecules in the medium of their like. In this case the real environment of macromolecules is substituted by a certain averaged continuous medium. The major problem of this approach is to determine the character of this me-... [Pg.18]

According to initial findings on batch reactors, both in solution and in the molten state, the role of the reaction time in overall yield of the process was too far to be neglected (39) (Fig. 13.10). In order to check that point and also the role stereospecificity could play in the reaction extension, that is the molecular motion possibilities of the macromolecular coreactant, atactic polypropylene was chosen to be modified by grafting maleic anhydride in the same mode as before for isotactic polypropylene. The influence of the temperature of the process had also to be checked because the atactic polymer could not be processed at the same temperature as the isotactic one due to its nature. Results were fully discussed elsewhere (40). Figure 13.11 exhibits the dynamic and unsteady character of the grafting process. [Pg.398]

Endo et al. reported a synthesis ofpoly(l,2-dithiane) (PDT) [151,152] that possibly contained polycatenane structures (Scheme 17.24). A melt polymerization [153] of 1,2-dithiane 84, without initiators, yielded the polymer 85, the NMR analysis of which confirmed the presence of large cyclic structures, which were further verified using by mass spectroscopy and photodegradation analysis. In addition, dynamic viscoelastic measurements showed that the molten state of the polymer 85 has a rabbery plateau, while the Tg of PDT decreased with increasing molecular weight. These observations, which differed from those obtained with the linear PDT analog, provided further evidence for the formation of polycatenane structures. In taking... [Pg.521]
