Cancer, as well as rare diseases, has been the area where NGS has brought most benefits. Independent of the potential use of NGS in the clinical setting, cancer is now better known, prominent, and diagnosed discoveries have resulted in better molecular classifications. As mentioned above, of major importance is the discovery of biomarkers based on NGS findings and the identification of therapeutic targets associated to specific genetic alterations (117).
