Moderation Management

He contrasts this unsatisfactory state of affairs with what he inelegantly calls a ternary model of managing. By this he means that there is a third consideration, a purpose or project, which moderates managers behaviour and enables them to transcend the petty ego-driven considerations of a binary relationship. Only if, in Mant s view, there is an external referent point can managers hope to act in any way with integrity,... [Pg.161]

Moderate manageability Uncertainty can be reduced to Moderate through a set of measures that are considered cost-effective. [Pg.519]

Mineral acids are used as catalysts, usually in a concentration of 20— 40 wt % and temperatures of 30—60°C. An efficient surfactant, preferably one that is soluble in the acid-phase upon completion of the reaction, is needed to emulsify the a-pinene and acid. The surfactant can then be recycled with the acid. Phosphoric acid is the acid commonly used in the pine oil process. Its mild corrosion characteristics and its moderate strength make it more manageable, especially because the acid concentration is constandy changing in the process by the consumption of water. Phosphoric acid is also mild enough to prevent any significant dehydration of the alcohols formed in the process. Optimization of a process usually involves considerations of acid type and concentration, temperature, surfactant type and amount, and reaction time. The optimum process usually gives a maximum of alcohols with the minimum amount of hydrocarbons and cineoles. [Pg.420]

In the McCoy table of recommended concentrations of boiler salines, the guidelines for pressures from 100 to 900 psi apply to conventional field-erected boilers with moderate rates of heat transfer, say, 50,000 Btu/hr/ft2. At high rates characteristic of packaged boilers, large amounts of insoluble material cannot be managed effectively by any dispersant presently available. [Pg.596]

The major use of the narcotic analgesic is to relieve or manage moderate to severe acute and chronic pain. The ability of a narcotic analgesic to relieve pain depends on several factors, such as the drug, the dose, the route of administration, the type of pain, the patient, and the length of time the drug has been administered. Morphine is the most widely used opioid and an effective drug for... [Pg.170]

In addition to the relief or management of moderate to severe acute and chronic pain, the narcotic analgesics may be used for the following reasons ... [Pg.170]

OxyContin is a controlled-released form of oxycodone and indicated for the management of moderate to severe pain when a continuous, around-the-clock analgesic is needed for an extended period of time OxyContin is not intended for use as a PRN analgesic The patient may experience fewer adverse reactions with oxycodone tlian morphine, and the drug is effective and safe for the elderly. The tablets are to be swallowed whole and are not to be broken, chewed, or crushed. [Pg.174]

The curves in Figure 5.2 are typical of exothermic reactions in batch or tubular reactors. The temperature overshoots the wall temperature. This phenomenon is called an exotherm. The exotherm is moderate in Example 5.2 but becomes larger and perhaps uncontrollable upon scaleup. Ways of managing an exotherm during scaleup are discussed in Section 5.3. [Pg.162]

Treatment depends on the symptoms and severity of the exacerbation. Mild exacerbations can often be treated at home with an increase in bronchodilator therapy with or without oral corticosteroids (Fig. 12-3). Antibiotics are indicated only if there are clinical signs of airway infection (e.g., increased volume and change in color of sputum and/or fever). Moderate to severe exacerbations require management in the... [Pg.239]
