For the study of mixed oxides, one should characterize the various sites. In this case, the first step is to characterize the CO adsorption at various equilibrium pressures at low temperature, followed by evacuation at increasing temperatures to obtain information about the stabilities of the various species. Although the C—O stretching frequency is the most informative parameter, the data determining the stabilities of the various species can be decisive for the assignment of the bands. Multiple carbonyls adsorbed on the same metal cation are possible, and in order to identify them isotopic mixtures should be used. Sometimes the polycarbonyls are very stable and in this case, if 12CO is adsorbed first and then 13CO introduced, mixed species may not form at ambient temperature. [Pg.113]

The monovalent Co chemistry of amines is sparse. No structurally characterized example of low-valent Co complexed exclusively to amines is known. At low potentials and in non-aqueous solutions, Co1 amines have been identified electrochemically, but usually in the presence of co-ligands that stabilize the reduced complex. At low potential, the putative monovalent [Co(cyclam)]+ (cyclam = 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) in NaOH solution catalyzes the reduction of both nitrate and nitrite to give mixtures of hydroxylamine and ammonia.100 Mixed N-donor systems bearing 7r-acceptor imine ligands in addition to amines are well known, but these examples are discussed separately in Section 6.1.2.1.3. [Pg.9]

Thioether ligand complexes are not very common, however, studies since the mid 1990s have dramatically increased the number of structurally characterized examples. Almost all of these compounds are with chelate or macrocyclic ligands that will stabilize thioether coordination. Mixed donor multidentate ligands containing thioether donors will be discussed in Section 6.8.11. [Pg.1194]

Most of the substitution reactions with the homoleptic Tc(I) isocyanide complexes presented in the preceding section had to be performed at elevated temperatures and were often characterized by low yield. The reason for this behaviour is the exceptionally high kinetic and thermodynamic stability of this class of compounds. From this point of view, 4a are not very convenient or flexible starting materials, although they are prepared directly from 3a in quantitative yield. The exceptionally high kinetic and thermodynamic stability is mirrored by the fact that it was not possible to substitute more than two isocyanides under any conditions. On the other hand, oxidation to seven-coordinated Tc(III) complexes occurs very readily. Technetium compounds of this type, which are not expected to be very inert, could open up a wide variety of new compounds, but this particular field has not been investigated very thoroughly. A more convenient pathway to mixed isocyanide complexes that starts with carbonyl complexes of technetium will be described in Sects. 2.3 and 3.2. [Pg.159]

To measure the influence of the mixing procedure on the sedimentation and turbidity (1) the stirrer speed, vR rpm, (2) the time of polymer addition, tz[min], and (3) the time of stirring after addition of the polymer, tN[min], were varied.
