Mixed Induction

In this section we will review the symmetry-adapted perturbation theory of pairwise nonadditive interactions in trimers. This theory was formulated in Ref. (302). We will show that pure three-body polarization and exchange components can be explicitly separated out and that the three-body polarization contributions through the third-order of perturbation theory naturally separate into terms describing the pure induction, mixed induction-dispersion, and pure dispersion interactions. [Pg.73]

Some variation in these properties through molecular conformational preferences in the biphenyls is thought to explain the apparent "mixed induction" activity seen for certain PCB isomers. [Pg.446]

The pole made up of a mechanical object isolated from any interaction capable of modifying its movement, except from friction with its environment, is a mixed inductive-conductive pole... [Pg.83]

The prodnction of heat due to the dissipation occurring during the course of the reaction is due to the conductive property of the mixed dipole representing the chemical reaction. Graph 11.21 represents the transfer of energy and simultaneous conversion from the physical chemical dipole to the thermal dipole. This scheme is identical to the one given in the previous case study H2 Slowed Down Motion, except that the source of the dissipation was a mixed inductive-conductive dipole. [Pg.529]

The mix of inductive and resonance effects varies from one halogen to another but the net result is that fluorine chlorine bromine and iodine are weakly deactivating ortho para directing substituents... [Pg.502]

The zinc is normally melted in a gas, oU, or coal-fired reverberatory furnace with a capacity up to 100 tons or in a low frequency induction furnace with a capacity of a few tons. The more highly aUoyed compositions are more effectively melted and mixed in low frequency induction furnaces. The furnace must be refractory-lined to eliminate iron pickup by the molten metal. The metal temperature is maintained below 500°C to minimize loss by oxidation. A ladle is used to transfer the metal for casting into molds the pouring temperature is usuaUy ca 440°C. Zinc scrap is not generaUy suitable for remelting because it may contain undesirable impurities. [Pg.414]

One underlying physical basis for the failure of Hammett reaction series is that substituent interactions are some mixture of resonance, field, and inductive effects. When direct resonance interaction is possible, the extent of the resonance increases, and the substituent constants appropriate to the normal mix of resonance and field effects then fail. There have been many attempts to develop sets of a values that take into account extra resonance interactions. [Pg.210]

Induction period. The curatives react with themselves in preparation for the cross-linking reaction. This period allows the ingredients to be safely mixed avoiding premature curing ( scorch ). [Pg.638]

In addition to the health hazards mentioned above, it is important be aware of the potential for explosions due to the Cannizzarro reaction ([77], pp. 36-37). When strong alkali is mixed with formaldehyde solutions, the Cannizzarro reaction will result in a rapid and spontaneous reaction even at relatively low temperatures. Depending on conditions, an induction period may be seen. The main organic products of this reaction are methanol and formic acid (salt form). In addition, significant amounts of hydrogen are evolved. The potential for explosions in closed containers is high, and even open containers will often erupt. [Pg.875]

The following example provides some indication of the effects of induction. Primary and secondary air are mixed respectively at the rates of 0.5 m s , the primary air velocity at outlet being 5.0 m s , with the secondary air velocity assumed to be zero. [Pg.736]

Induction The process by w hich secondary air is entrained into the primary jet air. The mixing process is due to the momentum forces in the primary air jet. [Pg.1450]

Induction supply ATD An air terminal device in which the primary air from the duct induces secondary airflow from the treated space in such a way that a high rate of mixing between the air from these two sources takes place within the device. [Pg.1451]

Calculation of the induction time is crucial, since gaining a stable and continuous process requires residence times in the mixer < precipitation induction times in order to prevent incrustation in the mixing device. The induction... [Pg.258]

The dependence of reaction rates on pH and on the relative and absolute concentrations of reacting species, coupled with the possibility of autocatalysis and induction periods, has led to the discovery of some spectacular kinetic effects such as H. Landolt s chemical clock (1885) an acidified solution of Na2S03 is reacted with an excess of iodic acid solution in the presence of starch indicator — the induction period before the appearance of the deep-blue starch-iodine colour can be increased systematically from seconds to minutes by appropriate dilution of the solutions before mixing. With an excess of sulfite, free iodine may appear and then disappear as a single pulse due to the following sequence of reactions ... [Pg.864]

Recently, Eq. (11) was extensively studied by Dewar and Grisdale, who synthesized several substituted 1 -naphthoic acids and determined the dissociation constants in mixed aqueous solvents in connection with a study on the mechanisms of transmission of the inductive effect. [Pg.336]

Review the types of motors proposed for a process plant with a qualified electrical engineer thereby evaluating whether the mix of synchronous and induction motors will help the net power factor for the plant, because a net lagging factor for plants means that all power to that plant will cost more than if the factor were unity or leading. From Brown and Cadickd ... [Pg.652]

Sporadic use (e.g., for the induction of sleep after a psychostimulant binge) does not require specific detoxification. Sustained use can be treated as described in the previous sections on detoxification from therapeutic or high dosages but with added caution. In mixed opioid and benzodiazepine abuse, the patient should be stabilized with methadone (some clinicians use other oral preparations of opioids) and a benzodiazepine. Buprenorphine should not be administered with benzodiazepines, because a pharmacodynamic interaction is possible (Ibrahim et al. 2000 Kilicarslan and Sellers 2000) and fatalities have been reported with the combination (Reynaud et al. 1998). Sedative-hypnotic withdrawal is the more medically serious procedure, and we usually... [Pg.133]

E.coli recA y.luxCDABE strain were grown for 16-18 hours at 37°C in LB-broth in the presence of 20 pg/ ml of ampicillin. Immediately before the experiment the culture was diluted 1 20 by fresh culture medium and incubated until early log-phase. The grown biomass was mixed with AR solutions in final concentrations of ICfs, ICH n ICfs M, with used for their dilution with distilled water (control) and incubated for 60 minutes. The luminescence intensity of UV-irradiated E.coli recA lux and intact specimens were registered by plate bioluminometer LM OIT (Immimotech, Czech Rep.) in a real time. The number of viable cells was determined from the colony-forming units (CFU) on a surface of a LB-agar after the subsequent incubation within 24 hours at 37 °C. A quantitative estimation of an induction of the SOS-system calculated on formula... [Pg.188]
