Miscellaneous exchange reactions

Many miscellaneous exchange reactions are reported in the literature. Afew are presented here. One such reaction is reduction of pendant carbonyl groups of poly(vinyl methyl ketone) with metal hydrides  

Another is introduction of unsaturation into pendant groups by a Wittig reaction on pendant carbonyls  

The same reaction can also be carried out on a copolymer of ethylene and carbon monoxide. Polycaprolactam can be treated with either SO2CI2, POCI3, or PCI5 at 70 °C to introduce ionic chlorine groups. The main product is poly(a,a-dichlorocaprolactam)  

when Nylon 6,6 is reacted with trifluoroacetic anhydride, trifluoroacetyl nylon forms  

Syndiotactic poly(2-methallyl hydrogen phtiialate) can be amidated according to the following scheme

E. Miscellaneous methods. Exchange reactions between the tetracyano-nickelate(II) ion [Ni(CN)4]2 (the potassium salt is readily prepared) and the element to be determined, whereby nickel ions are set free, have a limited application. Thus silver and gold, which themselves cannot be titrated complexometrically, can be determined in this way.
