Milling cutters

The groove into which a key is fitted is referred to as a keyseat when referring to shafts and a key way when referring to hubs. Keyseating is the actual machine operation of producing keyseats. Keyways are normally made on a keyseater or by a broach. Keyseats are normally made with a rotary or end mill cutter. [Pg.998]

The effective key length, L is that portion of key having full bearing on hub and shaft. Note that the curved portion of the keyseat made with a rotary cutter does not provide full key bearing, so L does not include this distance. The use of an end mill cutter results in a square-ended keyseat. [Pg.999]

The use of peat as litter was studied in Finland in the 1930s and 40s. Today, peat is harvested mechanically by means of a milling cutter, which creates fine particle peat. Cowsheds have also changed with respect to the use of peat with the mechanisation of manure removal. At the same time workers are now demanding better working... [Pg.196]

Different adhesives were checked and "Bison" has been found the strongest. Nevertheless in testing the tabbed 3D carbon-fiber specimens, the separation of the tabs from the specimen surface before the crack initiation was observed in all initial experiments. To prevent this, side-grooved specimens were used. The 1 mm wide side grooves were machined by milling cutter. The depth of grooves equal to 4 mm was chosen to cut the side lines of transverse yams leaving intact only 2 transverse yarn lines. [Pg.517]

The milling cutter has a rotatiraial movement around its own axis and a translational movement in feed direction. The trajectory of each point of the tool can be described by a trochoid. A trochoid is defined in a way that a circle is rolling on a line and each point that is fixed relatively to the circle will move on a trochoidal curve (Bronstein et al. 1995). Point A in Fig. 6 moves on its trochoid to point A , and point B moves on its shifted trochoid to point B . [Pg.606]

Now the theoretic profile of the slot in a plane is known (without considering forces). As the milling cutter is rotating and moving forward, the points PI, P2, P3, and P4 are moving upward and forward. So the scallops are tilted by the angle a (Fig. 11). [Pg.609]

The extension of the 2D examination to the 3D milling cutter is shown in Fig. 15. Due to the helix angle, each point of the cutting edge is at a different rotational position on the tool and on a different height. So for an analytical calculation, the cutter has to be divided into height increments... [Pg.610]
