Mica marks

The mold filling speeds used with PPVC need to be relatively slow as excessive shear can cause the material to degrade or its use will effect the surface finish of the molding (i.e. splash/mica marks or surface delamination). Profiled mold filling speeds are often used to produce components which require a good surface gloss. [Pg.139]

Fig. 13-19.—The structures of mica, brucite, and kaolinite, showing the sequence of layers normal to the cleavage planes. Large circles represent 0 or OH (or K+ when so marked), small ones Si44- or Al84" at tetrahedron centers and Mg4-4" or Al84 at octahedron centers. In contradistinction to the spectra obtained in the mica dispersion, Pseudocyanine, when added to the colloidal silver and silver halide systems of Figures IB and 1C, yielded no H-bands but formed well defined J-bands. The latter also exhibited a weak secondary peak located near the absorption maximum of dissolved, unperturbed dye. Although the position and intensity of the J-band varied with the substrate (4, 17, 38, 61), the differential spectra obtained in these silver systems exhibited marked similarities. An increase in the concentration of the substrate produced in both cases a monotonic change in the absorbance of the M-... [Pg.185]

Faraci and Walsh263 studied the substrate and solvent deuterium isotope effects of the reactions catalyzed by alanine racemases of S. typhimurium (DadB and Air enzymes) and B. stearothermophilus. Although the kinetic constants for all three alanine racemases obey the Haldane equation, i.e., Keq= 1 (this confirms that the enzymes are true racemases), the individual Micaelis-Menten parameters in both directions show marked difference in the binding of each isomer. This suggests a structural asymmetry at the active sites of these enzymes. The asymmetry in the recognition and turnover of substrate enantiomer was also clearly seen in the results of isotope effect experiment with DadB enzyme. In the d-... [Pg.156]

When the isomorphous replacements occur mainly in the tetrahedral silica layer, as is the case with micas, the cation exchange capacity is much lower, in marked contrast to that found for the... [Pg.14]

Subsequently, the scan size is increased as much as is required to image the entire crystal. Then a FV scan is started using a z ramp rate of > a few Hz. An array of 64 x 64 points2 (4,096 consecutive force-distance measurements) is acquired to provide an FV image of the hydrophobic PE crystal on the more hydrophilic mica. Because of the high surface energy of (clean) mica and the sample preparation procedure, which involves hydrophobic solvents, the mica surface will be covered with a thin contamination layer. Nevertheless, the adhesive properties differ markedly and the crystal can be visualized as shown in Fig. 4.6b. This FV image is scaled... [Pg.195]
