A stream of ethylene oxide is passed through a solution of 107 g of 2-(p-chlorophenoxy)-2-methylpropionic acid and 2 g of zinc chloride in 200 ml of toluene, previously heated to between 55°C and 60°C, until 24 g of the gas have been dissolved. The reaction is allowed to continue for five hours, with gentle stirring. After this time has elapsed, the solution is cooled and washed successively with water, dilute ammonia and water until its pH becomes neutral. It is dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, the solvent Is separated off under vacuum, and the resulting liquid is the monoglycol ester of 2-(p-chlorophenoxv)-2-methylpropionlc acid. [Pg.608]

Monofunctional 2-bromo-2-methylpropionic acid 4-methoxyphenyl ester and difunctional l,4-(2/-bromo-2/-methyl-propionate)benzene initiators, given in Scheme 26, were employed for the polymerization of n-BuMA followed by the addition of DMAEMA, thus leading to the formation of PnBuMA-fo-PDMAEMA block and PDMAEMA-b-PnBuMA-h-PDMAEMA tri-... [Pg.44]

Captopril Captopril, l-[(2S)-3-mercapto-2-methylpropionyl]-L-proline (22.7.4), is synthesized by direct acylation of L-prohne with 3-acetylthio-2-methylpropionic acid chloride (22.7.2), which is synthesized from 3-acetylthio-2-methylpropionic acid (22.7.1), which is in turn synthesized by reacting methacrylic and thioacetic acid. l-(3-Acetylthio-2-D-methylpropanoyl)-L-proline (22.7.3) is formed by reacting L-proline with 3-acetylthio-2-methylpropionic acid chloride, and it undergoes further ammonolysis with ammonia, to give the desired captopril (22.7.4). [Pg.306]

Preparative, paper-chromatography is frequently used for further fractionation of the resulting mixtures. The high lability of glycosyl esters of nucleoside pyrophosphates seriously limits the choice of solvent systems. Systems used most commonly are neutral or slighdy acidic mixtures of ethanol with ammonium acetate,24,25 or weakly acidic solvents based on 2-methylpropionic acid.26 A solvent system containing morpholinium borate has also been found extremely useful.27... [Pg.311]
