Acriflavin Mixture (Euflavin, 3,6-diamino-10-methylacridinium chloride) [8063-24-9] M 259.7, m 179-181 . Purified by dissolving in 50 parts of H2O, shake with a small excess of freshly ppted and washed Ag20. The mixture is set aside overnight at 0 and filtered. The cake is not washed. The pH of the filtrate is adjusted to 7.0 with HCl and evaporated to dryness. The residue is then crystd twice from MeOH, twice from H2O and dried at 120°- at 452nm has a loge value of 4.67. It is a red powder which readily absorbs H2O. The solubility is increased in the presence of proflavin. The dihydrochloride is a deep red crystn powder. It is available as a mixture of 3,6-diaminoacridinium chloride (35%) and its 10-metho-chloride (65%). [see Albert, The Acridines Arnold Press p. 346 1966 Chem BerAS 1787 7972]. [Pg.94]

The singlet quenching of 10-methylacridinium chloride by chromium(m) complexes is probably an energy-transfer process,149 and a linear free-energy relationship between -values and the rate constants for fluorescence quenching of substituted anthracenes by triphenylphosphine has been recognized.160... [Pg.73]

Energy transfer from [Cr(en)3]3+ to [Cr(CN)e]3 in [Cr(en)3][Cr(CN)e] 2H20 has been observed by monitoring the rise time (6.2 ns) of the [Cr(CN) ]3 emission.27a The same authors have reported evidence for energy transfer from [Co(CN)e]3- to [Cr(CN)e]3- in their non-stoicheiometric mixed crystals.276 The quenching of the fluorescence of 10-methylacridinium chloride by CrUI complexes in aqueous solution proceeds with rate constants in the range 1.3 x 10 ->... [Pg.156]

It was shown by Gailliot that commercial acriflavine actually consists of a mixture of the hydrochloride of 2,8-diamino-10-methylacridinium chloride with diaminoacridine hydrochloride, the pure methylated compound not satisfying the solubility requirements of the fi.P.C., but the ferricyanide estimation measures the total content of acridine derivatives. Hence methods have been evolved to determine the proportion of methylated and unmethylated compounds in the mixture. [Pg.256]
